Pretty sure they can't say Ru is a figurehead given that drag wouldn't be the industry it is without her.
Kind of insulting to make it sound like Ru is a figurehead. Say what you will - Ru built the industry up to what it is now through hard work and smart business choices. Other drag stars were successful, but they didn't contribute to the creation of a multimillion dollar industry in the way that Ru did.
I absolutely hate that kind of inaccurate portrayal.

I used to be deadly afraid of Drag Queens because of how I was raised. Then one day, bored, depressed and alone in my dorm room, I came across RuPaul and Rupaul Drag race. I cannot thank him enough for introducing me to those amazing people and characters and really open my mind and making me more accepting of other people and to accept myself for who I am along the way.

I'm almost 60 and have always loved and been fascinated by drag and drag queens, even when I did not know it's history. Love RuPaul and faithfully watch Drag Race - it's my favorite show. My younger brother was gay and in the early 90s I helped him get dragged up. He looked like Kelly LeBrock. I was born female and look like Ginger Ming's less attractive sister.

I didn't think it would come to this, but I'm watching because I have to have something to show my friend, an actress who have no idea who RuPaul is.
It's such a dichotomy since two of my other friends have VHS footage from the late 80s, where he says he's going to be a great, big star one day and the drag queens just roll their eyes.

Shantay, you always stay! I love RuPaul so much. Drag Race is helping me to get out of depression and find this vivacious flamboyant side of me as opposed to the darkness I'm going through, I'm sure millions of others feel this way. I feel like the modern world has the ability to condense an entire lifetime into a few minutes that seem meaningless. Whatever happened to learning about a person's background after they retired and wrote a memoir, etc/etc?

As a drag queen myself and a viewer of RPDR I'm very influenced by Ru. I've had some issues with some of his choices in the past few years but I can't deny that this man is a ICON! He paved the way for people like me.
