So. from what I gather from this video, Dr. Seuss was a man of his time and as flawed and imperfect as the rest of us. And yet so many of the people in this thread are screaming down from their moral highground about what a terrible person the guy was.
Seriously?
For facts ten to two, none of that was in anyway surprising or even offensive. Pretty much everyone was racist to some extent back then, and the war propaganda was run of the mill during that time as well. As for the racey images, not liking children, etc; I'm not even going to waste my time arguing against points like those being used as ammunition against his character. It's not fair to hold the people of then to our standards today. By all rights, in the time that he lived, he was an honest, patriotic man with his own unique, quirks. The same as anyone.
And as for the final one, his affair. That's the only one I'm willing to given any ground for. He cheated on his wife of many decades during terminal illness. There's very little anyone could say to defend those kinds of actions. With that said, is this really worth crucifying the man over? Looked at with some level of nuance, his affair was hardly some uncaring fling he just decided to have because he didn't love his wife. From everything available, it's pretty clear he cheated during the one of the hardest times of his life: taking care of his ailing wife. Anyone who's cared for a loved one knows intimately that this can be incredibly draining, both emotionally and physically. It's no surprise that eventually he found himself falling prey to another woman.
Of course, as I said, this doesn't even slightly excuse him, but some of you people are all but demonizing Dr. Seuss for mistakes many of you may have made in similar circumstances. One mistake shouldn't be used as a weapon to ruin and demolish the entirety of a person's accomplishments or be used to represent their whole character.

How is him not being a doctor going to RUIN YOUR CHILDHOOD and he didnt seem to like kids, doesnt RUIN YOUR CHILDHOOD, him drinking at a younge age shouldnt ruin your childhood but hey its something to do with WATCH MOJO so you know theres no point watching BUT I WILL CONTINUE, the grinch was based on him but if you listen. THIS PERSONS NOT MAKING ANY SENCE. so he looked in the mirror and was inspired thats odd but then she says hes been putting up with this for 53 years when he was that age ( I know doesnt make sense ) so is he the grinch or the people around him or does he think hes ugly and starting thinking he was ugly and idk what age when he was a child annnnnyyyy way Im done ranting I cant be bothered watching anymore BYYYEEEEEEEEE
reply

I think Didn't like kids is simplifying him too much. I'd say he wasn't that interested in people in general, kids or adults - by most accounts he liked to keep to himself and some close friends. That's a little different from hating children. He wrote very eloquently about why he respected children's minds more than most adults he knew. If you watch his underrated feature film The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T you'll see how much respect and understanding he had of children's minds.

Im in sorry, .but what delusional logic makes you mix Dr. Seuss character with actual Dr. Seuss -the writer. most of the kids dont even know or care who is the dude behind the scenes. its all about the stories and what they teach you and learning to read along.
By this kind of twisted thinking we should cancel half of our classic literature, because the writers were not perfect by the new standards

He made his second wife send her kids to boarding school, couldnt stand children, sad when you think about it. And the fact that he cheated on his first wife, and then she killed herself, doesnt speak well to his personal ethics. Not a nice guy. This is discussed in the book Becoming Dr. Seuss, though rather gently. My dad knew Ted Geisel and much of this was common knowledge back then.

And you y'all want to know what's crazy tell me his dark secrets are in his characters Cat in the Hat the twins Thing One and Thing 2 and now is the Grinch you was on going around killing people so yeah that's always a dark side when it comes to Dr Seuss they just haven't open up his box and expose them but there is a movie coming out next year the Grinch that kills people
reply

None of this make him look bad. His cartoons were reflecting what was going on at the time. That disgusting word WAS used freely. Hes making a commentary about the world he lived in. And who cares if he didnt want kids. When I was little the sneetches although one of my favorites, I didnt understand it was about racism. The Lorax probably had the biggest impact on me.

Yet another Millennial and Post-Millennial bastardization hatchet job on a time and person they never knew, never understood cannot understand, and should not even comment on, but when you're shallow and lacking in a adult perspective you will indeed embarrass yourself by conjuring up a video like this.
reply

You cant defend everything he does, but he was a good author and he simply evolved on the issue of race. If anything he wouldve opposed the Vietnam War and support MLK Jr. Dont cancel because he simply is just a flawed human being.
reply

Wow my teacher use to always read dr. seuss books everyday but now it turns out my childhoods books were a lie but no matter what I still appreciate how he made books at his old days and rough days but hopefully he likes kids one day
reply

It really doesnt ruin my childhood. rather, I cant hate him. What he did cant be forgotten, but its in the past. And plus, even if you guys dont believe it, but its highly possible that he regretted his past actions,
reply

Dr. Suess wasn't racist, he made a book relating to the racist days, he showed that none of us should be hated because we are different, was that seriously a lie? if yes, that kinda ruins a lot.
reply

I heard that Dr. Suess told her wife to go kill herself after she found out he had an affair. And her wife committed suicide, then he married the lover. Is that true? If so, oh God that's horrible.
reply

8: 43 The body language says it all. If I didn't know any better I'd think the woman on the left was his wife. His poor wife looks like she's 3rd wheeling her own marriage.
reply

I can't believe Dr. Seuss was racist. I loved his book The Cat in the Hat. He was #1 in the children's literature cannon for a long time. He was a popular children's author too!
reply

He is like Steve Jobs, we idolise them from what we see and hear from media and their contribution to society but we dont know the real them since we really dont care about it.
reply

He may have hated kids, but his motivation to make books for them and read to them with life lessons is close enough that deep done, he did care for them.
reply

Okay so we have a loser that is a anti-Semitic that claims to have a PhD. Along with cheating on his wife who wrote The books. Hope Hell is nice jerk
reply

Yeah, beat up on a man that uplifted and educated millions of children. I suppose now we are going to praise men that abandoned their children.
reply

''He didn't seem to like kids, or billy goats for that matter! Seuss, in private, would never use the gauche ''kids', ' rather the formal children
reply

That lady who was joking about mistaking him for a Dr during his younger years is the source for grinch drawing and dr suess character
reply

Doesnt ruin my childhood because when i was a child i wasnt aware of these things. Its cool to hear these things, more relatable
reply

Disney was raciest too back then they didn't think the way we do know, if someone crossed dressed back then they be shot on the streets
reply

Duh. None of this is news. He was a man of his generation.
This is why it's called context when talking about ANYONE from history.

reply

Yeah talk shit about a man who is dead and cant defend himself. Lets look at everyones past see if everyone has a clean past.
reply

I didnt see 10 facts and my childhood is definitely not ruined by this. I dont think hes a racistI think it was funny
reply

Bruh Dr. just doesnt go to a doctor. Yall ever been to university. Your own professors have phd which gives them Dr.
reply

Japanese war crimes were horrendous, potentially only topped by Nazi exterminations in concentration camps.
reply

You have to separate the artist from the art. Dr Suess may have been bad himself, but his books were good.
reply
