Top 10 Times Dawson's Creek Tackled Serious Issues

Putting the drama in teen drama, Dawson's Creek tackled a lot of serious issues. Our countdown includes Abby's death, Joey's father in prison, Andie's depression, and more! Which serious issue do YOU think Dawson's Creek tackled the best? Jack was forced to come out around the same time I was. My situation was much uglier as I was in a Mormon household. Yet the series kept me afloat through that time. The best twist of all is I met Kerr Smith at Sundance years later at a bar and we talked through it, and about many other things, over the afternoon. He was amazing and if I told the 15 year old me that was forced out at that time watching Dawson's Creek that I would meet Jack and share how the show saved my life, I'd never believe it. Real life issues, real life hero!

Tbh the show wouldve been awesome without so much love triangle drama. If there had been more attention for Jen and Jack, it wouldve been 10x better than it was. I loved Jen with my soul and the fact that she died and, even that was used as a means for Joey to figure out who she wanted, still pisses me off. The complexity that was Jen Lindley really resonated with me, and her death broke me

I feel like Jen was kinda pushed to the side later seasons, she was the most complex character in my opinion and I think the writers didn't know how to handle her after some time (mainly in s5-s6. Jen's one of my favs, I feel like she deserved more. I WISH SO MUCH we could see more of her (and the others too) during those five years when she got pregnant and became a single parent!

I can kinda relate to Andie. I used to have a very close friend whom I considered a sister who was bipolar. She went out of her way to spend time with me so we became very close. One day, she had an episode that resulted in her overdosing on her antidepressants. They found her 3 days later in the woods behind her house. RIP.

Jen and Jack were my favorite ones. These characters deserved so much more. They were shrewdly developed on the earlier seasons, until being left aside to give space to the tiring love triangle Dawson-Joey-Pacey. Usually, a person's experience at college is enriching. Not for Jen and Jack. SO UNFAIR.
reply

Others that could be added to the list are. The death of Dawson father, and how his mother Gail now has to raise their young daughter on her own. or finding out the person your dating/married to is cheating on you. (I could have the wrong show here) but being a teen and having a pregnancy scare.

The final scene between Grams & Jen, to this day, 4/18/22, still brings tears to my eyes and gives me chills. Grams giving her a kiss and her goodbye is just heartbeaking. Great list overall. One honorable mention for me is Mitch's death. Every time I see J. W. S, I think about Mitch Leery.

Jack's coming out meant so much to me as a gay youth. To see a gay person be a full fledged character rather than a caricature was huge. To watch him go from afraid and confused to out and proud to finally finding love and family meant so, so much

When Andie had her bipolar episode and Pacer took her to the hospital. That was an important episode for me as it was something I went through a few years later with 2 of my best friends and I was the one who brought them to the hospital.
reply

Another serious issue they tackled was teachers abusing students. That's something that happens to students everyday and it's sad. And the school system wonders why there's so many teenage suicides.
reply

Jen's death got me. I watched the scene the other night, in fact. When she passes and her grandmother whispers, I'll see you soon, child. Soon OMG! I don't think I will ever not cry at that scene.
reply

3: 58 What show have you been watching! He manipulated her into sleeping with him. She wasn't ready & he wasn't happy. The girl was rap by fraud. Giving consent when you're manipulated & pressured to
reply

Dawson's Creek always tackled big issues back then that not many teen shows did. I'll always love the series, how it handled big issues, and love how it still resonates today.
reply

I love Dawson's Creek but i can't stand the character Dawson. The show got a 1000 times better after season 2 when he stop being the main character and Joey took main focus.
reply

Today, this show would be cancelled by both liberals and conservatives. Apparently teens are supposed to be these picture perfect angels who have zero problems. Makes me sick,

There are no extra pieces in the universe. Everyone is here because he or she has a place to fill, and every piece must fit itself into the big jigsaw puzzle.

I really loved this show, and the lesson still holds up now. I love how they highlighted that psychological and verbal abuse can be JUST as damaging as physical abuse.

Oringnal dawson creek series big Handel tackle serious issues remake dawson creek fun big problem tickel talking beach other getting alone with coststars with monica
reply

I think one of the best thhings of this series is the way the characters making up with each other. The hurricane episode explores this and it was very touching.
reply

So I haven't finished the show and I thought oh this stuff won't be too bad for spoilers since I've seen most of these episodes. then it got to Jen's death. I
reply

I wish they'd get there facts right 1, paceys dad is not an alcoholic, 2, Joey's dad was not released from prison until mid 2nd season not end of the 1st
reply

Fun fact: Dawsons creek and vampire diaries had the same producer. and both of them involved the girl getting with the wrong guy.
Coincidence?

reply

I think I'll never get over Jen's death, I cry every time I watch that scene and yes I cried watching the end of the video hahahaha
reply

Dawson Creek is definitely one of the more realistic and relatable teen dramas which makes it one of the best in my opinion
