For the second one I actually think it was supposed to be a Twilight Saga reference because of the book Priya reads. Its supposed to be a knockoff of the Twilight saga which would allude to the reason why she asks if shes a werewolf. And to note werewolfism was also hereditary in Twilight.

This is such a good movie. I loved the early 2000s references with their attire such as butterfly clips in the hair and plastic choker necklaces. This movie is at once nostalgic and refreshing. It covers a new topic for Disney in a familiar and fun way.
