The evolution of Pinocchio is as long as the puppet's nose. For this video, well be looking at this iconic characters growth throughout literature, film, and pop culture, spanning almost 140 years. Our video includes Disney, Guillermo del Toro, Pauly Shore, and more! What's YOUR favorite version of Pinocchio?

What I really don't get in the Disney's version:
We're adapting the story of Pinocchio, a disobbedient puppet that through various trials and adventures learns to behave and grow up into a real man He's a bad kid. That's a horrible protagonist. Let's make him a nice boy [years later] We're adapting Sleepy Hollow, with a teacher as protagonist that grooms a beautiful woman for her father's riches DON'T. CHANGE. ANYTHING [years later again] We're adapting Peter Pan, a story of a boy who never grows up and doesn't even seems to be the good guy, he doesn't even improves himself at the end LET'S. KEEP IT. THAT. WAY!
How come the only evolving book character is the only one to be deprived of an evolution just because he squashed an annoying bug at the beginning, something that NOBODY has ever done, apparently?
But also because, by making him a nice boy, that is DRAGGED AWAY BY FORCE from the straight path, he doesn't commit any mistakes from which to learn. You ruined the entire point of the character, like this. But, oh, no, let's not touch Ichabod Crane or Peter Pan's bad personalities! Oh, Heavens! Disobbedience is MUCH worse and unrelatable than greed and mischieviousness/borderline-evilness

Del Toro's version has more in common with the 1940 Disney film than people realize - they both make the same ideological break with the novel. In Collodi's book Pinocchio is treated as inherently evil from the time he's created, and the other characters are constantly chastising him for his evil nature, and even when he's clearly being manipulated by evil adults, Collodi always heaps more judgment on him. Disney and Del Toro both have a more balanced understanding of children - Pinocchio is not bad but inexperienced, and both of those movie versions make it plain that the adults exploiting him are more guilty than he is, something that never seemed to occur to Collodi.

If theres a vs of Pinocchio directed by Robert Zemeckis and Guillermo Del Toro, he wins.
Robert Zemeckis is a great director since his work in Forrest Gump and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. What he said about making the film touched our hearts. He did make it look magical but some moments did fall flat. The ending was a nice change
For Guillermo Del Toro, hes a dark fantasy director which is a good reason why he did Pinocchio. Stop motion movies are popular since the Christmas specials. Since he is a puppet, its a perfect choice to make the movie and to be a musical. Guillermo wins

What I think about Pinocchio.
is a timeless classic fairytale unlike the book. When it became Disneys second animated film, its hailed as his best creation. Its a shame that its not in Top 100 Movies of All Time but it shouldve been. When theres a wish, hes the one. Okay yeah, many retellings are bad including the horror movie. Robert Zemeckis or Guillermo Del Toro, worlds best movie directors, they bought the magic back to life

The thing about Pinocchio is hes a classic fairytale since the 1940 film, 83 years ago. It is the story of a puppet becoming a real boy but no one can top Disneys classic. From what Im seeing is its not just the cast or directors but theyre trying too hard. Dont make it like the original, make it your own

Like Snow White, Pinocchio has a non-Disney unofficial sequel. Both have a great casts with the late Irene Cara voicing Snow White and Seth Green voicing Pinocchio. Both have underrated villains, nothing like the Disney original but has a nice story

Del Toro's tops the Disney version for me. It's just so good! I mean, two different types of animation, which truly is unfair to compare really, but man Del Toro's is astonishingly beautiful. I cried so much.

I do wish the Disney version has Pinocchio turn into a donkey fully like in the original novel and sold to a cruel ringmaster as those are very important moments in the original novel

I have two favorites; Robert Zemeckis and Guillermo Del Toros versions. I love both. I cant choose. Pinocchio goes on journeys, make friends and having a deep connection with his father

Teachers Pet is WAY different from Pinocchio. It might be a musical and have a underrated villain voiced by Kelsey Grammar but it has nothing compared to the original story

There was another live action Pinocchio that was actually pretty close to the original book and that was the 2003 2 episode mini series starring Bob Hoskins as Geppetto

Recently watched Del Toros version of Pinocchio and it was very good, though very little remained of the original story. Who here has read Carlo Collodis original tale?

Nothing beats the Rabbit Ears production of Pinocchio, performed by Danny Aiello and Les Miserables Brass Band, released in 1994, right?

I had an old illustrated version of the book when I was a kid, and the picture of the robbers that steal his money was so scary to me.

I'm not going to lie with Guillermo del toro's Pinocchio I really love the voice that British actor David Bradley gave Geppetto

Can you recommend 2 Pinocchio characters with both versions of Shrek and Disney? I think it will be a great idea to watch.
reply

With their live action version Disney didnt make a movie, they made a product. Del Toro didnt make a movie, he made Art.

Pinocchio has certainly evolved over time. We appreciate how the character has made a significant impact on pop culture.
