Taylor Swift's Love Story music vid has them living a happily ever after ending.
There was a series that cancelled after 1 season called Star-Crossed. This one had aliens, with elements from West Side Story like racism and social distrust. It ran from Feb-May 2014, but sadly got it's plug pulled for low ratings, still a great show and like Warm Bodies, a modern science fiction take on the tale. Plus in the pilot, the 2 met when they were little kids of 6 years old instead of teenagers. Now that's new as it shows they met before, that was the start of their love journey, and not at 1st sight as teens.

Both versions of _West Side Story_ will always be my favorite adaptations of this story. The original is a childhood favorite of mine, and the remake did an amazing job recapturing that magic. Both take the Shakespearian classic and make it works so well in a modern setting, with characters you really feel for and banger musical numbers that are still so iconic to this day.

I loved seeing the 1996 adaptation in 9th grade, and my high school, Madison Comprehensive, put on a production of it late in my sophomore year. The catch was that one of that years junior girls was cast as Romeo, which I thought was the right choice. All roles were played by males in Shakespeares day, so why not cast a girl as Romeo?

Every teen drama follows these formulas too. In Mexican telenovelas is the Cinderella story, American teen drama, R + J. The OCs Ryan and Marissa, how they met, the balconies, the death of_____ spoiler. In Gossip Girl, Dan and Serena, how they met, the balconies, the social status differences

Apparently, Natalie Portman was almost cast as Juliet in the 1996 version. But because she was only 13 at the time, they thought that she was too young next to 21 year old Leonardo DiCaprio. Apparently, Leo and Claire Danes didn't get on well on the set.

Warm Bodies is not really a Romeo and Juliet movie. Reason, they dont die tragically. Its more of a movie of change. The book is so much more better. It was funnier and more detailed. It wasnt a long book. He actually got married in the book.

the 1968 one is the best without a doubt, and it is because of the perfect casting! i literally can't picture anyone else in the lead roles other than leonard whiting and olivia hussey. they were absolute perfection!

I recently rewatched Baz Lurhmann's version and yeah, definitely lustful teenage attraction. One minute Romeo is crying over Rosaline, then the next he's all over Juliet. Still love that story though.

I just BURSTED out laughing at the sight of Mr. Arthur Wesley wearing the big purple hat! Totally did NOT know he was in R&J back in the day! This completely MADE MY DAY! Oh my gosh!

The 2021 version of West Side Story is my favorite movie and my favorite interpretation as well as Disney ZOMBIES as that had some elements in that franchise as well.

For me the 1968 and 1996 movies tie for first place. West Side Story (both versions) being adaptations of the play are in a different category.

I studied this film for school, with the 1968, 1996 and 2013 versions being our most watched. The 60's version is definitely the best, in my opinion.

Romeo + Juliet is always going to be one of my favorite adaptations. West Side Story, both the '61 version and the 2021 version are also top tier.
reply

Warm Bodies. That's the best romantic movie. It's like Twilight. But without the vampires and werewolves. It's good even Disney knows it lol

In titanic I like to think of the main characters as
Jack - Juliet and

My favorite is Warm Bodies, I love the happy ending. I don't get why Romeo and Juliet have to die, when they could just runaway.
reply

love romeo must die, probably the most diverse version ever made of this work, Aaliyah and Jet li had perfect chemistry
reply

Just my opinion but the 1968 version is the best Romeo and Juliet ever. So good that its even in the Criterion Collection.
reply

Its totally fine to keep a classic within its heteronormative terms. Not everything needs to fall to the alphabet mafia.
