These teen movies were ahead of their time and the class. For this list, well be looking at the most notable adolescent-centered flicks that were most ahead of the curve on things like style, social issues, and more. Our countdown includes The Breakfast Club, Bring It On, Juno, and more! What's YOUR favorite teen movie?

Booksmart. This defied the popular trope of having the smart kids vs the popular kids. They can be one in the same. There a scene in a bathroom where one student said you and can study and go to parties. The two arent mutually exclusive.
I can relate to this film as I went to a high school for gifted students, where our head cheerleader went to Columbia and the captain of the football team juliard.

I think its great that Clueless and 10 Things I Hate About You both made this list, although I wouldnt call them ahead of their time on account of the fact theyre both based off classic literature (Emma by Jane Austen and Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare, respectively) Them making this list rather shows that theyre timeless instead of ahead of their time.

As much as I love Dirty Dancing, this movie has to stop being praised for being so ahead of its time' due to the fact that Johnny is a grown man and Baby is still a child 16. I understand that it can pass for acceptable seeing as how the age of consent is mostly 16 everywhere, but as someone who is about to have a daughter. I dislike the storyline at times.

10 Things I Hate About You and Clueless are honorable mentions. This list is missing the original troubled teen movie, Rebel Without a Cause. I'd also add Jennifer's Body to this list. It took a deep look at female friendships and rivalries and re-wrote the rpe revenge narrative at least a decade before the #metoo movement.

Make a list of teen shows ahead of their time or better yet underrated teen shows like huge but that show lasted more than the season it would be a classic one of the best teen shows ever made it's got Nikki Blonsky from Hairspray and David Hasselhoff's extremely gorgeous daughter Hayley and very very good writing

Has anyone seen Teeth? This 2007 movie is a lesson on consent among teens. It also throws in how pollution affects us physically (the main character, a teenage girl, lives within eyesight of a nuclear power plant. It also brings up religion and hypocrisy. Worth watching if you havent seen it.

Heathers is definitely an anti John Hughes movie. Its humour is more cutthroat and cynical, with its underlying message being that everyone is just as awful as they appear, with no hidden nice side. It understands that high school is insignificant in the long term.

I would have to say Cooley High because it was the first time anyone saw what life was like as a black high school student living in the projects. I feel like it influenced movies like Boyz in the Hood, Juice, The Hate U Give, and On the Come Up.

Kristen Stewart's SPEAK, according to me, must also belong on such a list owing to its subject matter of teenage abuse in schools and the resultant trauma as well as road to recovery. It's a topic we still need to be sensitised about.

Clueless and 10 things i hate about you should not be on this list as much as i loved the films
They were both inspired Literary Writings of Shakespeare (10 Things) And Jane Austin (Clueless) Making them not ahead of their time

You missed Pump Up the Volume, Another Christian Slater rebelling against the establishment movie. Only this time he doesn't blow stuff up. Better writing, better music, better message all around - Talk Hard!

What about Accepted. Accepted was way before its time. I never reallt understood the significance of that movie until I went to college myself. Accepted had a lot of underlying tones and messagss.

Pretty in Pink sucks as it's clear she deserves better than Andrew, but picks him anyway. Ending is ruined. Originally she picks Duckie, but the audience hated it, and they rewrote it. and you can tell.

Am I the only one who didnt like The breakfast Club, I was so excited to watch cause people said amazing things about. So I was so disappointed I spent 3 days to finish it.

If youve ever heard the song, It So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday, you have Cooley High to thank for that. Unsurprisingly, it was left off this particular list.

_But I'm A Cheerleader_ is one of the best sapphic romance stories I've seen and one of the most criminally underrated teen movies out there.

How rich and sheltered did you have to be to find clueless relatable? No one outside of Beverly Hills talked or dressed like that either.

Johnny and Babys child molester predator relationship wasnt mentioned Im surprised.
Isnt she like 15 and hes umm clearly NOT.

teen movies make my heart smile. definitely comfort watches on this list for me when I'm depressed. love this list for real

Clueless is iconic, then and now, as if, 10 things I hate about you makes me laugh and cry at the same 'cause of Ledger
reply

What is the common denominator in the list? That when teen movies are played by adults, they are much better.
