we’re counting down our picks for the best examples of replacement cast members who inherited a role mid-Broadway run and made it their own. Number 10, george Hearn, sweeney, todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street, steven Sonheim, musical of Victorian era cannibalism, opened at New York's Eurus Theater in 1979 with Len Caru as the title character. What happened then? Well, that's the play, and he wouldn't want us to give it away. That's Sweeny. After over a year, caru left the show in 1980, and George Hearn stepped in. His memorable performance, would be revived on tour, and in the 1982 film version of the show, alongside original star Angela Lansbury. This would effectively make Hearn's chilling and Hardy, take the first glimpse that many non-native new yorkers got of the homicidal barber. Pretty women sitting in the wind, standing on the stair. Bernardet Peters, A Little Night. Music He would play the role several times Again, in concert, memorably paired with another Broadway luminary, patty Lupone, because the lives of the wicked should be made. Brief for the rest of us. Death will be a relief. We all! Deser to die. Number nine. Bernardet Peters, a little night. Music. Although Katherine Zeta Jones won a Tony for her role as Desiree Armfelt in the Lackluster 2009 revival of this stime show. Bernardet Peters was a noted breath of fresh air as her replacement. I must me, your life. The difference in quality was marked by variety-crit. Steven Susin, who began his review with the phrase, quote. What a difference. A diva makes Peters, along with legendary co-star, elaine Strich entered the show 6 months into its run and gave it a shot in the arm le. What's happened to them today. By then, peters was a master interpreter of composer Steven Sim's work, and her take on the role. And its signature song is notably subtler. Where are the CLS number eight, marin Maisy, and Jason Danieli next to normal. Once the lotted original cast left next to normal. In July 2010, performers, marin Maisy and Jason Danieli, headlined the production. The this musical is a challenging show, both thematically and vocally.

I checked out the minute I got to Lea Michele I’m sorry but as much smack as you all at Mojo talk about her I’m baffled why you’d include her on this list.
I just I’m so confused how this was even included.
Do you really need the views and clicks THAT badly
Pick a side and stay on it kids.

Admittedly a highly personal pick. I was one of the few Americans who saw the 2007 Israeli movie The Band's Visit. In 2018, I saw the musical on Broadway based on that movie, after Sasson Gabay, who played the lead role in the movie, had replaced Tony Shalhoub. Great show!

Way back in 1987, I saw the original production of Into the Woods. Bernadette Peters had recently left the show, and I saw Nancy Dussault as the Witch. While her performance might not have made your list, it was a very admirable and memorable one.

I was waiting for this fine print we are not including replacements for Wicked however, because they are all too iconic and deserve a list of their own!

I would have added to the list Betty Buckley replacing Glenn Close in Sunset Boulevard. Betty is a far superior singer to Close and didn’t need key changes to sing the role. She knocked it out of the theatre!

Rob's performance as Nick Bottom not only made me fall in love with the show, but also him and who he is as a person. I am so happy it was recognised in this video!

I just don't get Bernadette Peters voice. I can see why vocal powerhouse Reba McEntire was more popular in Annie Get Your Gun when she took over for Peters.

Lea Michele was absolutely phenomenal as Fanny Brice in funny girl. Such a treat to see her in the show kill it! Saw her final performance and was in awe

George Hearn will always be the best Sweeney Todd for me so it’s nice seeing Recognition for him here that doesn’t happen often.

The cast of Hairspray. I like the OBC, but Shannon Durig, Aaron Tveit and Diana DeGarmo were fantastic. Diana, especially
