we’re counting down our picks for the celebs who surprised us with their triple-threat talents and the ones who made us answer Do You Hear The People Sing with Yes, but we’d rather not. Our countdown includes The Phantom of the Opera, The Prom, Cabaret, and more! Which movie musical casting do you think was genius and which felt like a cast-igation Fiddler on the Roof is my all-time favorite movie. I sang along with Topol at my parents' 25th Anniversary to If I were a Rich Man. It was a memorable moment. It's just about the only song I can sing. Most importantly, my parents and family loved it. They're gone now, but it still warms my heart that I could do that for them. I had sent apologies that I wouldn't be able to attend. But when it came time to give speeches, they said I had recorded my message, then I came out of the kitchen singing. There wasn't a dry eye. Maybe because of my singing, haha, but it was so much fun to see them so surprised.

11: 11 And the attacks onto Emma Watson by the lying, biased, dishonest, disgusting, pathetic Msmojo are completely unwarranted, unjust, abhorrently biased, as well as completely wrong, and invalid, as well as completely null and void.
And these criticisms that the lying dishonest Msmojo, and other lying, slanderous and dishonest entertainment sources are making against her, are no criticisms and are rather, pure libel, defamation, slander, insults, as well as pure dirty misinformation, disinformation, dirty smear propaganda and fake news.
And Msmojo lying dishonest statements in that pathetic video that Emma Watson had killed the 2017 live-action movie of Beauty and the Beast and she had failed to charm the audiences, and her approach on her portrayal of Belle is One-Dimensional, are again, nothing more but total bunch of lies, dirty smear propaganda, total fake news, phony and made-up stories, let alone that these statements being made on a dirty video by the dirty, corrupt, lying, biased, dishonest, disgusting, and pathetic Msmojo are again all completely wrong, invalid, as well as null and void; all of it.
And if there is one actress that has failed to charm the audiences with a One-Dimensional approach, and mixed with a bland, wooden, weak, plastic and stale acting, horrible miscasting, with a bland, stale and weak direction, terrible screenplay, horrible chemistry, terrible quality of cgi, as well as terrible decision of race-swapping of a traditionally written white character into a black character and placed with dirty identity politics, that would be Halle Bailey or better known by her name as Haileyr Baileyr, for she is the one that has downright ruined & killed the entire 2023 live-action remake/adaptation movie of The Little Mermaid, and Bailey's/Baileyr's performance as Ariel was horrible, and let alone the fact that Haileyr Baileyr was miscast as the live-action Ariel (for Bailey's/Baileyr's casting as Ariel was a grave mistake, and let alone the whole fact that the role of the live-action Ariel should have been cast towards to Anya Taylor-Joy, instead.

Madonna won a golden globe for Evita. And had to work hard on that film. Even before filming, she DID manage to convince the then Argentinian president to allow the production to actually film the speech scene on the actual balcony where Eva had given her last public speech. He was dead set against the film from and the onset and particularly vehement against Madonna, but his daughter (a Madonna fan, so THAT helped, convinced her father to at least hear the production team and Madonna out. While not a fan, he did understand the importance of filming the iconic scene in its iconic setting. People who thought she killed the film were bitter queens who themselves weren’t considered for the part of this, the DEFINITIVE Box Office film version. Madonna campaigned for 12 years to get the part of Evita in the film adaptation, even when she was all but out of contention, with one director stating she'd get the part over my dead body. In her 10 page handwritten letter to the new director Alan Parker she set forth WHY she should then be considered for the part; underscoring Eva Peron's life and challenges and psychology and Madonna drawing parallels with her own experience. While naysayers said he only hired her for her name value, that's all bunk when you read and listen to how hard Madonna had to work for this part and in this production. That work paid off. while she was snubbed by the Oscars, she DID win a golden globe for the role AND thanks to her vocal training and musicality, she was able take what she learned and applied it to her next album Ray of Light which earned her a grammy. so stuff it naysayers!

The problem with movies is that they have to appeal to people in Kansas and Iowa and Colorado, so they're cast with stars those people are likely to have heard of. Which is not to say that all Broadway plays are perfectly cast and performed because they're not. (They've even been known to hire movie stars) Of course Patti LuPone has her little opinions because she'd like to have been in the movie version of everything.
Actually, Elizabeth Taylor and Madonna should have been ideal in their big musicals as far as casting for type goes, but they were both at low ebb and not up to the task at the time the films were made: Madonna was pregnant, so her energy was low; and Liz was in her pre-Betty Ford Center, married to John Warner, overweight phase (five years earlier or five years later, she'd have been terrific and looked great.

I like James Corden. He is very talented, but my god he does not need to be in every movie musical. There are so many people that can sing, dance, and act. He doesn't need to be the one who is always cast because he has a big name. It's why it can be so difficult to break into the industry because the producers what a name that will bring in money, not someone new. It's a shame. I still believe gay people can play straight and vice versa as long as you bring truth to the character. But he played into every gay stereotype and that is why people hated it so much. I love Madonna in Evita. I thought she was good taking on that big of a role, but why they didn't get someone from Broadway to do it is beyond me. I thought Pierce Brosnan would be in here some where LOL

11: 30 - It was also pathetic for Msmojo to slander and insult the talents of the great actor, Sir Daniel Day-Lewis.
Even if Nine is a bland and stale movie adaptation of a stage musical, Sir Daniel Day-Lewis's acting and singing performance are not to be blamed on the failure of that movie, and let alone that his performance on that movie was not a bit like a Big Cloud on a star-studded Night (a convoluted and nonsense term that Msmojo made, just to confuse any ordinary commentators and viewers, alike.
And another thing, the failure of the Nine musical movie, is not to be blamed on Sir Daniel Day-Lewis, and rather, that entire failure of that movie is squarely blamed onto director Rob Marshall's direction, instead.

Okay I gotta say I disagree with two killers. I really liked Emma Watson in beauty and the beast. The role in the original is not as deep as fans sometimes like to make her, and the new adaptation added beautifully to it without changing every aspect of the story, and Emma really contributed.
And the phantom of the Opera was amazing, and the rough singing of Gerard butler was intense! The phantom was listening to singing his whole life, training his ear, but he didn't get much practice himself, leading to a rough and desperate singing. also claiming that the original author and director of the musical chose the wrong casting approach to make his own characters glow is quite a stretch, don't ya think

I am a huge Les Miz fan. Was looking forward to the film version of the movie until they cast it. I love Hugh Jackman, but he does not have the range for Valjean. My daughter and I couldn't wait for javier to jump off the bridge, that was the most painful version of Stars I have ever heard. And for all the praise for Anne Hathaway's role, I just didn't get it, the music speaks for itself and I felt she was kind of overboard with the facial emotions. I was genuinely surprised at Eddie Redmayne, enjoyed his version of Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, conveyed so much emotion just with his voice. Then of course the original Valjean was the Bishop and Colm was brilliant as always.

Madonna won an Emmy for her portrayal of Eva Peron, and while I love Pattie, she can kindly FO - she was just annoyed Madonna was cast in a role she wanted.
Gerard Butler made the Phantom music infinitely more accessible - I grew up listening to the Michael Crawford/Sarah Brightman cast recording and I prefer the motion picture soundtrack versions of the songs.
I only found out James Corden was straight because of the backlash over the Prom - I always thought he was gay.
And Beauty and Beast made over a billion dollars - Emma Watson absolutely did not kill that movie by any measure.
I'll give you the Russell Crow one though - truly awful!

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with some of these. Phantom was not Gerard Butler's fault. Screen acting and Broadway acting are different. I'm sure he was hired for his acting not his singing, but it wasn't THAT bad. (not when we can compare it to Cats. Speaking of, where is Dame Judy Dench as Old Deuteronomy) If Butler was bad, she was worse. As for James Cordon, I'm more offended when he acts straight. And as for Daniel Day Lewis, I'll have you know, he was nominated for a Golden Globe AND a SAG and won a Satellite Award. for best cast.

I'll just stick to the Phantom of the Opera Royal Albert Hall performance with the one and only Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom, Sierra Boggess as Christine and Hadley Fraser as Raoul. And speaking of Hadley, he should've played Javert in the Les Mis movie instead of Russell Crowe. Can't believe he only had a very small role in the movie, but of course star power is more important which is what happened with Evita's case as well. Love Madonna but a powerhouse vocalist should've played the role instead.

Andrew Garfield is indeed a chameleon. I am somewhat spoiled with the choices for the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, in that I tend to prefer Michael Crawford or Robert Guillaume in the role. I am also a fan of Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Anthony Rapp kills it in Rent, both on stage and on screen. I agree that Madonna didn't do her best with Evita. There are so many that have nailed their roles and so many others that shouldn't have gone anywhere near the roles they were in.

I usually like these videos but this one was a complete load of rubbish. Madonna and Evita were a perfect match. Her performance was wonderful and she deserved the Golden Globe and should have had an Oscar too. She was snubbed and robbed that year. It was well received and acclaimed. For once we had someone sing’ the songs rather than screech them. There are so many people who should have taken that spot. Sorry, that one ranking in this video made the entire list irrelevant.

Experience or not when recording for Phantom or the Opera Gerard Butler was loosing his voice. He could barely make a sound so it’s hard to say what kind of talent he has based on that. Emma Watson has a beautiful voice I’ve heard it without auto tune so who knows why they made that choice, but I feel like you’re not being fair sometimes it’s a weird choice or director error in judgment you can’t blame people for things that are out of their control.

Worked: Ellen Greene in the Little Shop Of Horrors movie ( No one can come close to her Audrey)
Killed: pretty much EVERYONE in the Les Miserables movie not just Russell Crowe! (We waited YEARS for the Les Mis movie and we get stuck with this! The look was flawless! The singing was! The beautiful score was reduced to tone deaf cats caught in a ringer! Hugh Jackman’s Bring Him Home wanted me to jam sharp pencils onto my ears horrendous and sad)

reply

Hedwig was hardly known! John Cameron Mitchell is a goddamn superstar, so do not put him an Hedwig the miscellaneous blurb category! Blasphemy! He is the original stage and screen! Neil Patrick Harris was great, but never put the OG in the blur category AND Chaim Topol! you must be confusing original masters with people who have tried to replicate. Big thumbs down to mojo for putting these trailblazing roll blazing masters, in a five second clip.

I can't entirely blame Gerard Butler for Phantom; Webber's insistence on a rock vibe corrupted one of the most lush scores of the last 40 years. And, of course, they had to overdo the chandelier collapse and move it from the end of Act 1 to the end of the film. screwed up the flow. Norm Lewis, who sang Javert in the 25th anniversary presentation of Les Mis should have done the film in place of Crowe; he was awesome.
