Yay! More levels we've already played before! If you're going to make a full blown sequel in classic 2D at least fill it with new levels. We've already played these levels in the other classic Sonic games. Give us new levels for Pete's sake. I'm convinced at this point Sonic Mania has almost no new levels by now. And is basically just an amalgamation of remade popular classic levels. Which we could play by playing the Classic Games in one of Sega's many-MANY ports of said games.
I was excited when I first heard of this game. Now I'm on the fence about it.

Sonic Mania is sweet. I do find it interesting how these developers glanced away when Christian was mentioned. They seem to be hiding some frustration. I bet Christian is an excellent developer, but perhaps there's more to the story. Maybe it's simply that Christian Whitehead is the name that gets thrown around everywhere, and so the team feels under-respected. I could just be seeing things.
Either way, these guys are great, and it's amazing that Sonic Mania exists because of them.

I grew up with only one game: Sonic 2 for the Sega Genesis. It was my only idea of what a video game was supposed to be. And then when I got older and started getting into lots of other games, I was so sad to see things like Sonic '06 which, to me, totally erased the original idea of sonic. I'm so excited to see this come out, despite being unable to afford the consoles it will be out on.

The developers of this game get chance to create a sonic game which is a dream come true, so they're happy.
And SEGA is gonna be raking in cash like crazy, so they're definitely gonna be happy.

Hmm. Bit worrying that the guy who's in charge of level design's favourite game is Sonic CD. Shit was all over the place in that game. But then again, from everything I've seen so far, the level design has been awesome - at least on a par with Sonic 3&K, so that's a good sign. Strange though.

the fact that so many people are straight up saying this game's beats the classic series in terms of quality is damn jaw dropping. I mean how often do hear about a game that makes so many people just go and say -Yup best game in the franchise. -

I don't think they put a level from Sonic 3 because of copyrights with music. Doesn't Michael Jackson own those copyrights to the OST for Sonic 3?

Sonic CD is my favorite because of how vertical the stages could be, and I am so happy to see that Mania is full of tall stages
