that was true love, that he gave up his dog that he loved. he knew he would never find someone else that would love and care for his dog like he did other than her. they just dont come along. i think, once he knew solovino was safe and taken care of, he had nothing to live for anymore and maybe pushed the addiction farther so it just ended it for him. his final act of charity was finding solo the new home.

I’m a 48 year old functioning alcoholic and smoker. I have an apartment and pretty good job but every day I feel like I might pass away. I have a 15 year old dog that loves me so much and I’m so scared that one day, I’ll leave here before she leaves me. I do have a significant other that loves her as much as I do but I still can’t bare passing away and her wondering when I’ll be coming home.

Solo might have been the only thing that was keeping Juan Carlos alive at that point. When Solo was gone Juan lived more free. Juan absolutely did what he thought best for Solo. His last recollection of life could have been knowing Solo would be taken care of when he's gone. RIP Juan Carlos, I would have hoped you got to live longer to experience more satisfaction.

It's easy to blame people who are addicted, but given the circumstances they are put into, I suppose it's only addiction which gives them some relief from the daily hardships. Society has failed them collectively.
As to Juan Carlos, he showed his magnanimity till the end, imagine if he had a job, a place to live in.

addiction is a terrible disease. Juan Carlos took care of Solo the
best that he could and gave him so much love. I know that it was
hard for him to give up his dog but he did the right thing. R. I. P. Juan

Addiction destroys so many lives. Juan Carlos is a real hero for doing the right thing for solo even if it meant passing away alone on the street. Nobody deserves that, and it’s always such a tragedy. I hope knowing solo was safe gave him peace when he passed. RIP.

Addiction is such a horrid disease, every bit as evil and deadly as cancer, and often less treatable. Thank you for being there for both Juan Carlos and Solovino. May you truly be richly blessed every day of your life and may fur babies always be a part of it.

Wow. shed a tear or two. Though his first daddy was in a bad way he showed he truly loved this dog, though doing his best by him, knew what was really best in the long run. Amazing man and wish it could have been different but bless him and RIP!

Its so sad how this world helps dogs travel from country to country to find better lives, but humans get deported and held in cages. thank you for befriending a human and honoring his memory, through taking care of the companion the man loved the most.

It is common to see people sufferering from addiction walking around with dogs around the world. It is nice to help them and save them but the best thing is to write letters to town representatives to make them look at the conditions of animals

OMG that is so sad. I can't imagine having to give up a pet like that. It would kill me. I wonder if Juan Carlos deliberately took an overdose because with Solo gone there was nothing left in his life. This is making me cry.

Met a man on a beach in Mexico who had nothing but loved his dog like he had everythingnow that dog sleeps on my bed in Canada, and not a day goes by I don’t think of Juan Carlos and the love that made it all possible

It’s making me sad because I have to leave my dog behind and am afraid she will be neglected by my family because they don’t really care about her but I have to move away
