Hairdresser reacts to diy haircut fails and freakouts Asj: I've been growing my bangs out for the past few years, but before that, I would cut them similarly to how that first girl did (similar shape, pulling the hair down in front of my nose. Except I would only cut them once. With scissors. At nose-length. If I wanted them a little longer, I would do it at upper-lip-length. (I'd done this every six months) She'd had them at a good length before the razor thing! She hadn't even tried brushing her hair to check how it looked that way. v_v
My advice for figuring out bang length would be to pinch the hair where you want it, then pull that lock downward. Where it pulls down to on your face is where you cut. (But her hair was probably too long for it to bounce correctly, so it wouldn't have worked as well. She probably needed to wash her head after cutting it and let it dry afterward in order to see where the bangs would land)

Not sure why people seem to have such issues cutting their own hair. I have cut/colored my own for over 2 decades.
Set a point of limit to amount you are cutting off. Do not go past that line.
Main thing, watch a professional cut hair. I lived with a hairdresser for 7 years. I learned so much just by watching how he sectioned off hair and taking care to use proper scissors and technique.
Keep it long. Better to cut 1, 000 times tiny amounts off than to jank up your hair with one failed snip. If you get to your cut off level and you have serious issues. STOP! Don't cut off anymore! Wearing a pony tail for a few weeks is not going to be the end of the world.
Unless you have acquired proper techniques and training do not attempt bangs. Bad idea.

My daughter wore a shaved side in her hair for several years, it was halfway up her head on one entire side. I remember when she first got it at the hairdresser they freaked because her hair is to her waist. They asked her 5 times are you sure. what they didn't know is she gets 8 to 10 inches cut off every year. yes it really does grow that fast and her ponytail is two inches thick. She shaved the side to make it easier to manage. Now that she is older she is letting it grow out. 18 months and it is below her shoulder from a quarter inch, no lie.

Why do things going so bad always look so funny I'm so sorry to those this has happened to, but I'm still laughing a little, I'm so sorry!
Also, With the ponytail method, I know it's a terrible method but if you HAVE to use it pull the bobble to the ends, don't leave it on your head! Literally put in the pony at the front and then drag the bobble (at a angle like straight out from the head) all the way out to the where you want to cut, Please, this helps the shelves so much xx

The thing is, I know the moral of these stories is that you should go to a hairstylist, but I recently went to a hairdresser to get a fringe/bangs cut, and she gave me a MULLET! She cut off too much on top and too much on the sides. She just started snipping with no measurement of it being even or anything. I am watching these videos right now to make myself feel a bit better, but the truth is you can't always count on a hairdresser to do a better job than you would do.

I cut my hair during the pandemic because it was getting a bit too close to my butt. I only cut off about 3 inches and it did go onto an arrow shape but i didnt care as i always tie my hair up. My asymmetric fringe on the other hand. that was more choppy and uneven even though i followed the existing line/pattern? at least i only had to wait 4 months until the non-essential shops to re-open in the UK.

As someone who did watch kill Bill, and does on a regular basis, I have to ask who the hell is Phoebe?
Uma Thurman character was named to BEATRIX kiddo in the movie kill bill there wasnt even a character in the movie that I could recall named PHOEBE! The closest was Uma Thurmans daughter was named BB after Beatrix and Bill! But there was nobody in the movie named Phoebe!

I didn't know over-directing was a thing when I followed a Jenna Marbles tutorial of Jenna following someone else's tutorial lol my waist length hair looked like stairs lmaoooo and I really screwed up when I took a don't be shy, cut some more. mentality.

When i went to hsir school(12-14 years ago) my teacher did teach us the ponytail cut but it was never overdirected that far, it was just like a mid pony and she said was only meant for girls with super long hair.

And when cutting wet hair be sure not to cut bangs above eyes. Better chance when they dry they will be at eyebrow or just at top of eyes. Just my thoughts. Not a professional just bad experience myself. lol

I know it's a late comment but whenever I need a laugh I play this. The first girl! I immediately feel better. Any tips on growing out a sidecut and/or sectioning the long part of hair that's left to cut/trim.

That first girl. I actually cut my bangs that short. My bangs dont lay down they pooof up and look similar to the 80/90s fashion, naturally. I dont have to style then at all. Pretty and out of my face.

I went to my hairdresser today just to cut my bang a LITTLE BIT shorter. Well she ruined my hair. Gave me an new hairstyle and she cut my bangs way to short. My life is over.
