I tested 28 drugstore dry shampoos to find which is best (so you don't have to) Kendra: Hello! I actually use the not your mothers in a mango scent (the white & purple) can. To avoid white residue there are 2 things you can do. #1. Make sure you have the can far back enough then spray if its white still then you do not have if far back enough. #2. When you see the white residue you can try to rub it in with your hand some and it should go away in most cases. Ive also noticed you can take a little water & put it on the white residue for it to go away. However adding water kind of defeats the purpose of a dry no water needed product. So if you wish try these tips see how you like it.

I have incredibly sensitive skin and almost every dry shampoo product Ive tried has given me bumps and/or itchiness on my scalp. The only two dry shampoo products that work for me are: bumble and bumble all-style blow dry (use a quarter-size amount on wet hair and work into roots before blow drying or air drying) which is like a preventative dry shampoo that catches oil before you ever see it, and the klorane aerosol dry shampoo. Both of these products are great because they are dark-hair friendly as well!

Silica is what they put in packaging for non-food items to keep everything dry. It absorbs moisture. Morgen Schick DeMann, in her book Your Makeover, noticed a lot of breakage in her very curly hair after she began using products containing silicone (also dimethicone and any other ingredient ending in -cone. She warned readers to stay away from it off they had curly hair.
Just so you know.

I find Batiste works best when you can leave it to sit. So either I'll use it just before bed, spray it on til my hair is white and in the morning brush it through. Or if in a rush, spray it on as I leave the house and by the time I arrive at my destination I give it a quick rub or brush to get rid of the residue and voila!

I'm just gonna say that I color my hair black and use regular white Batiste dry shampoo. It's my favorite. I hate clear dry shampoo. It doesn't work for me. All I have to do to not have white residue is just run my fingers through my hair a bit after applying it. Not a big deal. I like the Wild scent.

Just gonna say, Batiste is probably the reason I don't bother to use dry shampoo anymore. Especially the one for brown hair. I tend to scratch my head a lot, which means my nails get absolutely disgusting by the residue, makes it look like I've been digging in the dirt with my bare hands.

Maybe toss in laundry starch spray since these are all starch sprays. Maybe also just sprinkle in corn starch, rice starch, arrowroot starch, talcum powder or flour perhaps with powdered clays or cocoa powder to match hair colour as that was how dry shampoo was done for centuries.

i am so blessed to have hair that thrives on being washed daily. i can go 2-3 days without washing (which i usually dont) but can wash it every single day with shampoo and it remains silky.
must be a regional thing cause we dont even have dry shampoos here. cant find them

I've always prefered dove myself but i swear not all bottles are the same, sometimes it really takes the oil out sometimes it doesnt. Batiste and not your mothers has never worked for me. I am a level 6 naturally so not dark but not real light either.

I could never get Batiste or Not Your Mothers to work. It always came off chalky and white on my hair even though I'm a blonde. I always brush through it and it helps some, but it still leaves my hair untouchable and stiff feeling.

Sprays vs paste - I cant stand sprays. The residues are awful and makes my scalp so irritated and I just feel gross. Dry Shampoo paste is the best, unfortunately youll need to go to a salon or Ulta for a good one like R+Co

Ive used the batiste and for dark hair its trash, Ive also used 3 different Not Your Mothers, 2 Dove ones and Im currently using the Hask. I think I like the Hask so far, and I would NEVER recommend batiste.

NYM volumizing dry shampoo is my favorite! I think it works better than the regular. I also love the NYM linseed chia blend and French plum seed oil dry shampoo, but that one is a lot harder to find now.

A friend I had in school, back in the 70's used corn starch as a dry shampoo for her light brownish blond hair. It would be way more economical than all these cans that are full of chems and stinky stuff.
