Hairdresser Reacts To Cap Highlights Gone Wrong Hannah_Brown_Cow: A trainee put about 6 different blondes through my hair as highlights. I looked ridiculous. I m not one to care about my hair but I was crying. I d lost my hair from treatment, finally grew it to shoulder length, strand test was fine. Then this guy completely ruined it, no way to save it at all but to go dark. I had it done just before travelling to meet my boyfriends at the time family, no way to fix it. I was so embarrassed.

I told my lashlady that i wanted my hair lightened and she told me she provides hairservices. I was thrilled because i really trusted her with my lashes and she told me that she styles hair since 15 years At the appointment i sat there and watched her pull out a cap and placing it on my hair. I stayed absolutely quiet after this. I knew what was about to come but i hoped it wouldn t happen. At the end my dark brown roots looked like a crooked band placed in the middle of my head. Some dark roots were 2 cm (0, 8 inches) long and then some shorter and some a little longer than that. The rest of my hair was yellow. She didn t tell me that my hair broke of so badly that it was half of the length in some parts. She didn t tell me about the roots. And she told me that the hair looks yellow because of bad lighting. She charged me double of the price she told me before.

Just a quick cap highlight protip.
When you go to take off the cap, do it in the shower. Wash out the bleach as much as you can first on the highlighted strands, then add some conditioner to them as much as you can near the cap especially. Then you can pull the cap off, the conditioner will make it glide right off the strands. A lot of folks don't cover the caps but they should just like they would an all over bleaching, the bleach ends up tacky and dried out by the time it's time to rinse, then they try to remove the cap like that and have to tug to get it off. Doing it in the shower with conditioner prevents that. Then once the cap is off you wash, rinse, and condition again to make sure you have all the bleach out.

I used to help cap my mom all the time when I was teen. She'd pull the pieces by her face and I'd do the top and back of her head. We always pulled it off to wash before toning though. It usually turned out decent. I do remember one year when I was kid and grandma was helping her, she didn't have toner on hand. For whatever reason it turned out pinkish the night before Easter Sunday service. Well, I guess I look like an egg this Easter

I did cap highlights once using a box of Revlon Frost and Glow on my friend and they came out gorgeous! Just the first time though when we attempted it a 2nd time I don't know what happened but we ended up having to bleach her entire head because it was so uneven and splotchy. not my preferred method of highlighting it's a pain in the neck trying to pull the hair through the little holes especially if you have fine/tangly hair.

My mother in law gets cap hightlighs done every 6 weeks and it always somehow looks great. The hairdresser does home visits which is awesome but yeah he's been doing her hair for decades now and has really good technique for sure.
I feel like it works so well for her specifically because her hair is fairly thin and fine, it's also already pretty light blonde so it blends well.

I knew someone and she insisted I use a cap and I was like I don't know how to do the caps but I know how to use foils she said no I want the cap I told her she would have to help me then she got box bleach and no toner and when her dark turned orange she starting dogging me about it, I just said it was box bleach and I said it needed to be on longer but you didn't want to wait.

I used to do cap highlights once in a while and never had any issues. Lol. God I hated pulling hair out strand by strand though. It was tiring for sure. But then again I did it with box dye and not bleach. And this is why I hate tik tok. People are dumb lol. The second girl like didn't even care and too chill for what actually happened to her hair. I'd be freaking out.

Okay, as the daughter of a hairdresser, and she has been a hair stylist for 50 years( so pre-foil era, it kills me every time you do a cap bleach video because they all try taking it off with the bleach on their hair! First of all, don't use caps! You just saw the why! Second they suck! But, if you must do this to yourself, WASH THE BLEACH OFF BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE CAP!

I had cap highlights done ages ago on my dark hair. It was torture, as the stylist poked my scalp with the hook every time she pulled out another bit of hair. By the time it was all done, it didn t even look any different. There was a slight difference in tone, but it was barely noticeable. It was a colossal waste, and she still charged me. I never went back there.

I highlighted my hair with a cap once. I was on my own and it took me like 3 hours or so, to get all the hair through. After the processing, I went inside the shower with the cap on, rinsed all, used some conditioner and then took the cap off. That way I didn't lose any hair. The final results were good, but as it was so time consuming, I wouldn't do it again.

This is giving me flashbacks. I did the cap highlight thing when it was originally popular at a salon, and ended up with way too thick highlights at the front. Even in the age of everyone doing this, OMG did this look bad. You re right Brad, it s way too unpredictable!
Luckily I was able to get a colour correction to blend it out, but NEVER AGAIN

My friend used to pull my hair thru a cap and it turned out beautiful. It took at least an hour to pull it thru the cap. My hair was shoulder length and very layered. I loved it. I would never do it now but it worked back then. I think it turned out so good because of the care taken when pulling it thru the cap. Thanks for the video!

You're supposed to wash off the bleach before you remove the cap so you don't pull out your hair but more importantly in case it's not processed long enough and you need to do another round of bleach you are only bleaching the hair you did in the first round only rinse off and remove the cap when it's the colour you want it to be

I have had both amazing and atrocious results when using a cap to highlight. Usually it comes down to good results if I am patient enough to part my hair correctly before applying the cap, and being meticulous while pulling the strands through the cap. When I rushed it I had bleach spots, uneven streaks, and horrid results.

Brad I put red permanent dye in my hair then added black box dye then I tried removing the color and some lifted and then I bleached my hair twice and now my middle section is just a coral color my roots and ends are blonde to platinum I was wondering if I throw in a bright grape purple color will it turn out okay?

If you re going to do cap highlights, I recommend rinsing the bleach out while the cap is still on and then fully saturating it with conditioner after rinsing and take it off while the conditioner is still in that way there s a lot less tension and less risk of breakage when taking it off.

When we were teenagers, we did my sisters hair and put wrap on top. Oh dear. We watched a movie and forgot about her, looked over and her wrap turned into a giant balloon and it was steaming. Shit, her bits were white as a shoe lace. It was hilarious. My sister freaked out lol
