Dining on a Dimes Philadelphia season naturally focuses on South Philly, where much of the citys inexpensive and casual comfort food is found, but this episode shows that theres good stuff even in the busy central downtown area. This week, host Lucas Peterson heads over to Goldie, a new vegan falafel restaurant from Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook, the team behind the well-regarded modern Israeli restaurant Zahav

I just love the fact i can eat anything, anywhere, anytime, and not have issues. Food stretches as far as the eye can see for me. peanut butter? spoonful, please. Shellfish? dozens thanks. Pasta? a bucket, if you please. Bread? Gaaaah baked in butter and crushed garlic, stat! That, is true freedom; )Edit: forgot to add that i feel no need to adopt a first world self righteous attitude about diet either. i can eat veggies for days then smash a steak, none of this fringe dwelling image centered idealism about food. same goes for stone age supernatural belief systems. free of that dogma. again. freedom; )

Sesame milkshake. nice. loving in a place where people have a chip on their shoulder. don't know. a neighborhood of gentrified hipsters with attitude. yikes. Haven't tried it yet, because not common, but hear fava bean falafel is the way to go. better than chickpea, which is already good.

This food isnt Israeli. The origins of this kind of food is Arabian. I dont think before Israel originated, they were eating falafel, and Humus in Europe a 100 years ago. Get your facts right Eater and look at common sense.

so a Mediterranean or middle eastern restaurant? and a vegan falafel shop is about as nonsensical a statement as the place being classified as israeli or the price tag for what sells for cents across the region

I've always found the texture of tehina to be quite dry, sort of like an upscaled version of peanut butter, how on earth did they solve that in this shake? Also: kudos to the reviewer, he's all kinds of badass.

Don't know if you can say anything is a Israeli food. We kind of eat food from all over Europe but falafel is as Israeli as you can get. (Cheers from Israel by the way)

I'm really hoping that someone took this wonderful man to Oscar's tavern for the cheesesteak and a half with a nice tall boy of lager. I mean he walked right past it!

I love restaurants that make food that also happens to be vegan, I'm not vegan but the woman saying that she eats meat and loves it too makes me want to try it!
