Salisbury Steak - TV Dinner Style

Back when I was a kid, and our parents didn t have time to make a meal, we d get to enjoy something called a TV dinner. They weren t that good, but we didn t care, since we got to set up our specially designed trays, and eat in front of the screen. One of the most popular TV dinner entrees of that era was the Salisbury steak, and this is my not-too-modern take on that classic dish

I also grew up (mother was a teacher) on TV dinners. From fourth grade on I was responsible for mine and little brothers breakfast and dinner. Many a TV dinner and cans of Campbell's pasted these lips. Like you, Salisbury stake was my favorite, still is, however TV dinners are not! And Chef John, I'd much rather Meatloaf that a steak! Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, beans or corn or asparagus make a very good meal. My wife, of well over 50 years, not so much!

Is there a recipe Chef John hasn't covered? I mean I was looking up dry aged beef, yep Chef John has done it. Beef jerky again it's covered. Chef, have you done carrot salad? one of my all time favorites. Of course there's always rocky mountain oysters or pork rinds. I love both. anyway food wishes is my go to foodie

Salisbury steak was my favorite TV dinner. We only got them once in a while because we were poor but I think that made them taste even better.
Later Mama would make it at home and like Chef John's here's looked nothing like the ash gray things in the Morton TV Dinners.

John made as you said browned patties FIRST, remove then cook mushroom and onion in that fat, before continuing with flour etc. gonna try this next time. Thanks, this video came at perfect time as I racked my head for dinner ideas?

Chef - you're bringing up some bad food memories here. Of course, as TV dinners went, Salisbury steak was the best option. However, your's looks waaaaaay better than anything that came out of my mom's freezer! ;-)

I remember eating this back in the days of elementary school. It was 2013 at the time. I recently just graduated high school, and this takes me back. I'm currently 17 turning 18 on the 9th of next month.

For me, it was 1987 and The Wonder Years with a Stouffers. Add cottage cheese. Shag carpet and a floor model tv. And everyone had their favorite TV tray. life was simpler then.
And cherry Kool-Aid.

Chef John, when I saw a little corner of you in sweatpants with shoes and socks on I wanted to scream. I live in the San Joaquin Valley where it's been over a 100 degrees for weeks. .. arrrrgg!

If you want the best gravy we can muster then I guess this would be a good time to break out one of the demi-glace cubes I froze as per your 'Demi-Glace' video. Thanks for the memories.
