I've made homemade onion dip a few times before, it was really good but the next day, when it was time to eat, it was really strong, im not going to add green onions until its ready to be served. I think that was my problem. Thanks for this recipe, im going for it. Chips and dip is my favorite snack of all time.

Dear chef john they use shallots like crazy in french cooking i learned cooking in france but spoke kinna iffy french never could figure the shallot from the onions thiught they were the same WHERES THE SHALLOT ID SAY thank you i know a shallot from your lovely simple show and tell thank yiu

LOL, Chef John, this is my handed down family recipe. Take a container of sour cream. Pour one Lipton's Onion Soup mix on top. Stir carefully until well combined. Put lid back on, return to frig. Better if left over night but al least a few hours. Bless your heart, Chef John.

Forgot those deepfried onions you get in a bag. Like julienned onion chips, I eat them outta the bag. Dip n' chip in one. Love your voice, method, humor, and exquisite recipes. Gotta BE California! Lol!

I really like using plain, fat free, greek yogurt instead of mayo and sour cream. Gives a lot more protein and a lot less fat. Which is good if all that extra fat, makes you scat.

First, I wouldn't have thought that I would need this amount of onion in a dip, but now I do.
Second, it is hard to make a rhyme using the word Allium as I intended.
