Chicken Tortilla Soup

Chicken Tortilla Soup

This incredible homemade chicken tortilla soup is not a quick recipe, but it is very easy to make, and without a doubt, one of the greatest chicken soup experiences ever. Like chicken noodle soup, but way, way more exciting. Every dish you make that has cilantro as an ingredient, in my head I'm automatically substituting it or omitting it from the recipe. It's frustrating to be one of those people who can't stand cilantro. For some, it has a soapy taste, for me it's more of a metalic taste like licking a rusty piece of tin, or the after taste you get when you put a 9v battery on the tip of your tongue.

My favorite way to serve this is with a huge handful of freshly shredded jack cheese on the bottom of the bowl with the tortilla strips. The hot broth perfectly melts it into this stretchy treasure trove of cheese that you can keep pulling up spoonfuls of as you go.

I love soup! But add some fried dried ancho or morita chile as topping. It tastes great, but don t add the cilantro.
Well, it s your soup although it is a bit untraditional. Thank you for sharing!
Edit: Noooo Comino no

Not nitpickin' the chicken and allowing the scraps to simmer in the broth is a clever move. You are the Chris Hemsworth of extracting all that it's worth.

its that cozy time of the year for beautiful red soup. chef john if im dressed like a witch when i cook this do i need to change the recipe at all?

I know it is unsettling or worse fore some, but I sort of enjoy getting meat off the bone with max yield as the goal. (Read that a few times, haha)

I want to see a redneck version of this recipe which involves Swanson broth, a rotisserie chicken, a jar of pace salsa, and some ranch Doritos.

This is the Food Wish I didn't know I wanted until seeing this just now. Thanks for the video and I look forward to trying this soon!

I've always wondered why people always peel off the charred skin on veggies they roast. I feel like it's defeating the purpose lol

I'm starting with a Costco roast chicken, ripping off the meat, and using the carcass to build the chicken broth/soup. Yum!

My favorite thing to do is cut squares of flour tortillas to put in the soup and let them soak up the broth like dumplings
