My German Professor in college was from East Germany and served this to us in school during German club. I had one glass and was it snuck up on me. I am sure, there was more than wine and spices in that glass. Probably rum or some other spirits. From one glass, I went from being coherent, to not being able to walk in the space of two hours. Gotta love the late 80s

This is a great looking tutorial. I don't know where I'm going to get star anise or vanilla pods, or for that matter whole nutmeg, and you didn't tell whether it should be sweet or dry red wine. But if I could figure it out, I'd be tempted to try it. It probably knocks you on your ass with all that spiced rum, too!

I've tried this recipe today with Shiraz and spiced rum. Somehow it turned out to be quite bitter and the smell of the spice was too strong. I wonder if it's caused by the choice of red wine. I'm gonna try to use merlot next time and less spice. Does anyone have the same problem?

200 gr. of sugar is way too much. I added 120 gr. and it was just about right amount of sweetness, more sugar would have spoiled the drink. Otherwise amazing recipe, best mulled wine in my life.

No wonder mine tasted like methylated spirits mixed with fire wood. I didn't brink the first bit to the book or use enough caster sugar. I will try this recipe tomorrow m.

That's a ton of sugar, my guy. I mean, it's gonna taste good but I figure that's overly sweet for that warm your bones drink experience, ya dig?
