I re-uploaded this video and censored it because youtube age restricted the earlier version, I'm very sad that youtube thinks showing how to kill and filet a fish is something that needs to be hidden, killing and preparing fish to be edible is a life skill and not something that should be age restricted, IMHO. How to grill a freshwater eel to make Japanese grilled eel otherwise known as Unagi. This video will show you how to start with a living eel and end up with a deliciously roasted eel that can be used for many sushi dishes, for example, it can be used like this: Chef Devaux will take you through all the steps from how to kill the eel and the steps required to cut and clean it, then how to cook the eel and make a tasty homemade sauce for it and finally how to grill the eel on a Japanese grill. products used in video: Eel spike: Japanese grill: gas: or electric: induction cooker: ironwood cutting boards: big Carolina cutting board: charleston end grain cutting board: first knife miyabi 600pro deba: metal skewers: living eels in different countries: USA: Canada: United Kingdom: (not alive) Spain:

I appreciate your bluntness, no point in beating around the bush this video is purely informational and not everyone is a vegan the fish are going to be killed and eaten regardless so wouldn t we want to be taught the most humane way to do so? I myself don t enjoy watching the killing part but it s part of the process and I knew what I signed up for before I clicked the video because, like you said, the video was titled with a warning sign. I also disagree with the age restriction because once again the video is informational about something that s been a part of life for millions of years, also I as an animal lover much appreciate the thorough steps you take in making the slaughter as humane as possible, go you your videos rock

First, death is part of life. In order to sustain life, something has to die, whether plant or animal. Second, this fish was dispatched FAR faster and humanely than the cow used to make that hamburger from McDonald s. Third, fish have primitive neurological systems, so you can t use movement, alone, to determine whether the fish is still alive. Once the head is separated from the body, it s no longer living, even if the body is still flopping about. Fourth, people wouldn t freak out so much if there wasn t so much disconnect with where our food comes from. Go visit a farm, pet a cow then have a cheeseburger.

I am sorry that you got censored. I am an avid fly fisherman and wingshooter. When I take an animal, by pulling the trigger or putting it in an ice chest; I will honor that animal by cooking it to the best of my ability, and best of all - serving it to my family and/or friends. I come from family of ranchers/farmers and we killed many animals; matanzas, celebrations or just to stock up the freezer - today not many can't get the connection on where their food comes and the process to make it to our table from which is rather unfortunate.

First. im ok with the age restrict IPO n because some kids cant read and some parents give 3y olds thier tablet/phone to watch youtube. (Although why they dont lock them into kids youtube or other apps i dont know) Second. if seeing someone cleaning or fileting a fish disturbs you then whTbare you doing clicking on a video like this? If your that kind of person who looks for videos to flag please go back to your little safespace and let the adults ADULT.

The only thing that I think would be concidered age-restricted for this video is blood. Blood is a very controvercial topic as some can handle it, and some can t. Blood from animals and blood from humans. Animal blood gets some people naucious. Human blood gets some people naucious. YouTube cares more for the general eye than the group of specifics. That or a bunch of dumb politicians are controling YouTube.

What were you supposed to do? Bite it's head off? Scared it to DEATH? Seriously! Political weanie correctness has gone overboard. I fished and gutted fish with my husband. What is wrong with these babies? Oh no no I have a cold. overheard in Montreal ER at midnight. Sick subject was sent home to sleep and given 2 Tylenol for the road. Seriously flawed babies at 20. I love eel. Screw YouTube.

Err, having watched this now start to almost finish, there's nothing graphic or should be censored. YouTube Mods, you're drunk and not very special snowflakes, go home. This is likely the fastest and most humane I've ever seen a fish (or eel) processed. I bet the thing that got it restricted was a little nervous twitch from the head when you pulled the spike out.

One of my earliest memories is of my mother chopping off the heads of chickens, tying the feet of two chickens together, throwing them over the clothesline so they couldn't run off. She really hated that chore, but as you say this is part of life and we should not be divorced from where our food comes from. I agree that YT is being absurd.
reply

from what I see YT has an argument with the amount that eel the wriggling despite the central nerve stem being completely severed. it looks like you a vivisecting the fish. and technically as it is alive for a few seconds you are. it's part of the food preparation process unfortunately and is informative but still a little graphic
reply

Age restriction because images of animal killings can be a traumatic experience for young kids; they would need to watch your useful video with an adult to get some extra explanation about how food is made, feel reassured etc. So YT protect itself by setting up the age restriction. Annoying but understandable.
