I sure hope the younger generations are watching her videos. The best thing about soup, is that you can use anything on hand but, she shows how she’s using brushed zucchini. Best soup is made with vegetables that are about to expire, or don’t look perfect or that left over corn that you had for supper the other night. This video is a perfect example how you can feed your family a healthy warm meal even if you’re on a budget.

Mexican grey squash is so good. I don’t know if you’re too young to remember Tatuma squashbig guys. That’s how I used to make my calabacita con pollo or puerco. So good. This looks amazing as well. Yes, I grew once the 3 sisters way but didn’t realize you needed more than one corn plant to pollinate each other. Lol.

Yesterday I made pork chili verde with calabacitas and corn. I usually use a hatch chili sauce, but they were out of it at the store. I got a green salsa instead and added hatch chili powder to add a kick. Pork was very tender and green salsa wasn’t too bad, but, I prefer the hatch green chili sauce better.

I fry 3 Chile arbol in lard until toasted, then remove chiles and then add my drained canned beans and cook a few minutes in the lard then I start smashing them. Add some of the juice from the beans and add the chiles back in and let it simmer.

These simple guisos are the definition of comfort food! That tostada though, so simple yet so good! I'd add some slices of avocado on the side just cause! That same combo of veggies also goes good in a sopita de fideo with chicken!

My abuelita use to make that a lot. She's been gone almost 20 years. I have yet to make it and I miss her terribly. Thank you for this. If I remember correctly she made it with pork.

I don’t know why, but the Mexican Grey Squash is far superior to regular Zucchini! I had never even seen it before I moved to where I live now.

So similar to the way we make Italian Zucchini Zuppa: onions, green/yellow squash, tomatoes, parm, olive oil, garlic. Some people put it over pasta!

One of my favorite meals. Am Native American and have taught my kids about the three sisters way of planting. Thank you for mentioning that.
