Soft flour tortillasso simple, yet so complicated. Want to know the real secret to soft, flexible flour tortillasjust like my Mexican grandmother makes In this video, I’ll show you the traditional way to make the best soft tortillas. They’re warm, pliable, and perfect for tacos, burritos, or quesadillas. No more cracking or breakingjust soft, steamy tortillas every time. This method brings them to life with flavor and authenticity. Passed down from generations, this is abuela-approved tortilla magic. COOKBOOK Available online at Amazon, Target, Walmart and Barnes & Noble #recipe #cooking #food INGREDIENTS 3 cups all purpose flour (400 grams flour) 2 tsp baking powder (7. 5 grams baking powder) 8 oz hot water (236. 59 ml water ) extra if needed 1/3 cup butter, lard or shortening (65 grams) use only 1/4 cup (59 ml) if using oil 1 tsp salt (5 grams salt) How long will they stay soft These are best eaten within the first hour. How to store homemade tortillas for the next day Store them in an air-tight baggie on the counter or fridge. How do I reheat tortillas to stay soft You can wrap them in a damp cloth and microwave for the maximum next-day softness. You could also quickly reheat on a hot griddle, but they will start to lose the soft texture and dry out. Can I freeze the tortilla dough to cook later Yes, but roll them out first, layer them with parchment paper to prevent sticking to each other. I’ve made them millions times.
Practice makes perfect.
I am by no means a chef.
And when I learned to make tortillas, I did a lot of practicing and a lot of fails.
Just like biscuits, a lot of practice and a lot of fail till I got him pretty much decent
We all have loves even if we have been cooking for years.
Learn from your mistakes when you’re making things.
If you don’t make a mistake, then you have mastered it but when you do learn, what did I do wrong and try to do something different

Who are these language Karens You’re not being pretentious at all. Speak your language! I pronounce Japanese words with a Japanese accent because I am Japanese American. I cringe when I hear people say, SOO-shi and tem POO rah without the rolling r but I say nothing because they don’t speak Japanese so it’s ok but please don’t call me pretentious for speaking Japanese words with a Japanese accent. This is the way for me.

I tried making tortillas a couple times many years ago, and they were an epic fail! I gave up and have used store bought tortillas ever since. You give me hope! If I remember correctly, I didn't let them rest, before or after rolling them out. I will give it another try with your recipe and tips; I'll let you know how it goes.

Two questions:
1. If you use bacon grease, will they have a bacon flavor
2. Which is more authentic and works best, butter, lard, bacon grease, margarine, cooking oil
I tried to pronounce tortilla like you do, total failure. I think I sprained my tongue
Thank you for sharing your recipes and cooking advice!

How silly that we live in a world where people make a big deal about how you say tortilla.
I'm not hispanic but a texan, and hearing a mixture of Spanish and English in one sentence is normal! I grew up eating flour tortillas hot off the press at my friends houses!
This white girl made them and it works!

Do we need to ensure the expiration dates on flour and baking powder are current I say this with skepticism because I know baking powder goes down hill even if it is before the exp date, which could be part of my past failed attempt I think a lot of use just put it in the fridge and pull it our now and then.

My Grandma made tortillas every morning. We would wake up to listening her in the kitchen with the smell of fresh homemade tortillas. We ate them with real butter. yum! We had them often with our meals she would make for us. fresh frijoles de la Jolla. what great memories. Thanks Angelica. love it!

And I'm a 100% Mexican from Mexico Immigrated Mexican. And i cant.
I don't think I even knew how to roll my rr's when I was little. My parents spoke Spanish all the time too.
Sometimes I think you're just showing off

I have a friend who would pronounce the l’s in pollo instead of saying poyo. It would drive me crazy. I would say to her, you say tortilla correctly, why not pollo The restaurant we would go to was called Pollo Rey. Your tortillas look amazing.

I made the mistake a few years back of buying a tortilla press thinking it was the easier way for making flour tortillas. I would say to your new people NO, those presses are for corn, not flour tortillas. Trust me, I tried.
