It's Malaysia, so I expect that it is a really fresh catch from the ocean, as you mentioned and not the yellowish farmed pomfret from China. In Canada, you can only get frozen farmed golden pomfret from China. I don't eat farmed fish and shellfish. I prefer sea borne seafood. Frozen is OK as long as they were harvested from the ocean. Tropical seafood is awesome, but only frozen ones in Canada, so every time I go home for vacation, I go to islands fishing villages with boats loaded with fresh catch.

Can’t help feeling some regret when watching these Penang foodie videos. I went on a guided tour type holiday in Malaysia some years ago, including a full day in Penang. I knew that Penang was famous for its fabulous local food. But at that point in the tour, the tour guide decided that all us Brits on the tour must be tired of spicy foreign food and needed a British meal, so that’s what we were given - bland, boring and tasteless. In Penang!

Have visit some asian country a years a go. 1 big difference between Malaysia and other asian country is, when at other country, people keep trying to ask money from me for a tips, got chasing by a group of begger & event got scamed twice, got threatened by some gangs which they call as premen if im not mistake (i dint want to mention the country name. But then, while in malaysia, people keep giving me free food and things. Malaysia the best

O dear Mark. u make me miss Penang. I been living there for 5 years n the set made me craving for the Malay curry. Next time ask for kerabu or Malay salad. You can only find kerabu in Northern Peninsular Malaysia tho. That s the different in the nothern part Mark. the eateries sell simple set food which is an equal balance diet such protein, carbo, fiber n very affordable. Dont forget to try laksa Penang.

Fresh Pomfret. Any fish sitting out in room temperature heat all day until someone orders it is extremely dangerous. Fish should NEVER get above 60 degrees while sitting out. It spoils very quickly even after gutted. In The United States a restaurant would get shutdown immediately for leaving fish out I'm the open air outside for hours prior to cooking it.

you can drive across the second bridge into a fishing village town called Bukit Tambun which is also famous for its seafood restaurants. you should try out the Jetty Seafood restaurant in Bukit Tambun overlooking the Juru River and mangrove forest.

Fried pomfret looks yummy but I wouldn't eat any seafood that has been left outside without any refrigeration, especially in that Malaysian weather. They could have at least put it in a ice cooler box to prevent bacteria and fend off flies too.

It's not pomfret. It's Halwai fish. It's dark scales and not silver. Pomfret also have two versions one is called khapri pomfret they are broad scales. But looks good.
