PART 1: Ultimate Chinese Street Food Tour of Chengdu, Sichuan, China This is Part 1 of an epic 14 hour day of eating as much Sichuan Chinese food as possible in a single day - this is only half of the food, be sure to watch Part 2 as well #ChineseFood #streetfood #Sichuan Again, a big thank you to Jordan and Anita from Chengdu Food Tours for taking me around Chengdu for this unbelievable food tour. Sichuan is one of the greatest cuisines of China, and the world, known for numbing Sichuan peppercorn, chili oil, layers of fermented and pickled ingredients, and huge amounts of flavor. I was very excited to go on an ultimate Sichuan Chinese street food tour to learn more about this fascinating cuisine. ShiEr Qiao Baozi - One of the most common things to eat for breakfast in China is baozi, and this corner little restaurant is extremely popular and their family favorite spot for baozi in Chengdu. The minced pork version, which is their main one, is probably the best baozi Ive ever had. The meat filling was delicious, but really it was the bread, the dough that stood out. Total price - 24 RMB (3. 38) Duck Blood Snack - One our way to the market, we had another Sichuan street food classic, coagulated duck blood drenched in chili oil. Delicious. Total price - 7 RMB (0. 98) Wang Ma Roast Rabbit - One of the most popular Sichuan Chinese street food snacks is roasted rabbit, shredded and loaded with chili oil, Sichuan peppercorn, and chili oil. What an ultra tasty snack. Half rabbit - 33 RMB (4. 65) Market - The market is vibrant and full of action and energy, and a perfect place to get a feel for the fresh ingredients used in Sichuan food cooking. The highlight for me was tasting fresh Sichuan peppercorn, both green and red versions, which were so pungent it was almost hard to breath from chewing on a few. Luckily, sugar reduces the effect of Sichuan peppercorn, and so we ate a persimmon. What a food experience Noodles - One of the most well known of all Sichuan Chinese street food dishes are chili noodles, and so Anita brought us to one of her favorite spots. The noodles were cooked perfectly, then tossed in chili oil and herbs, with extra pork meat. They were unbelievably tasty. Price - 12 RMB (1. 69) per bowl Sifang Dumpling Shop - Finally, for the last morning snack before lunch, we ate some Sichuan dumplings, again, one of the most eat street foods of Chengdu. The dumplings were boiled, then seasoned with chili oil, garlic, and sesame seeds. Total price - 35 RMB (4. 93) Again, this is only Part 1 of this incredible 14-hour Chinese street food tour of Chengdu. Keep watching Part 2 to see all the rest of the food

I won't stop watching your videos over this, but as a western person who's lived in an open society wherein individual, personal freedoms are part of its cornerstone, I would ask you to consider not travelling to mainland China in the future. The government of China is one the worst human rights abusers in the world, and is currently making life hell for the people of Hong Kong, even going as far as recruiting gang members from crime syndicates to act as muscle against regular citizens, who are exercising their legal right to protest. I am not saying you support this, but I think you owe to fans who care about the regular people of China and the wider region of South Asia, to consider that your presence there amidst these troubles, if unaddressed to your audience, seems like a form of wilfull blindness. Thanks.

The vegetable for the common Sichuanese pickle is actually what is called Celtuce in English (but this variety is slightly different from the type usually found outside of there. A type of lettuce that grows more like Kohlrabi & it is the swollen shredded stem used for the pickle. Not sure who this Jordan is but right from the start - to hear the chinese guy barking at him to move out of the way & Jordan continues to walk in front of him as the man brings the ginormous steam rack of Baozi to storefront - and Jordan is a presumably a regular. There is no polite expletive, even he doesnt understand sichuanese/mandarin, of which I am doubtful as he apoears to co-operate the food tour? Shocking.

This is one of the best episodes you've done lately Mark. The perfect mixture of smart editing, compelling characters and subtle yet perfect support of you music choices really is entertaining and informative. Really captures the yumminess of this region, and we've lived in china for years. Sometimes your longer episodes (over 20 minutes) can feel a little too much, but this one really holds the attention and Works Great Thanks for this wonderful Foodie share Blessings, James and Kim

As for Sichuan Pepper. When I was your age that fresh peppercorn was prohibited from bringing back to America (lt 80s) - The Sansho Pepper of Japan is a cousin to this plant, but instead of the berries, it is the leaves that are used instead (like Matcha vs Green Tea) for the zing flavour.

I have been watching a longtime, and love your family and adventures. I do have a problem with your videos from China The way they treat their people is so wrong and for you to support China's tourism is plain no good. Don't forget you're an American Christian Gods Speed to you Ying and Micah.

Chinese food is so different from city to city. An unknown gem is Hunan province cusine. It was amazing when I was there. Didnt make it to Sichuan when I went to China, but I will be back there soon after I graduate school. Cant wait to be back.
