PART 2: Ultimate Chinese Street Food Tour of Chengdu, Sichuan, China This is PART 2, of the same day, on this 14 hour day of eating Sichuan Chinese street food. Highlights of the day this tour are an old neighborhood Chinese restaurant for lunch, a huge 4. 5 kg. Rooster stew, and chuan chuan for dinner. Again, a big thank you to Jordan and Anita from Chengdu Food Tours for taking me around Chengdu for this unbelievable food tour. Heres the main food and places we ate in Part 2 of this ultimate Chinese street food tour of Chengdu: Lunch (Chenshi Liangfen) - This is an old school neighborhood restaurant on the outskirts of Chengdu that specializes in family style plates of Sichuan Chinese food. You just walk up, grab the plates you want, and sit down for a feast. Food is delicious, and my favorite dish was the chicken in chili oil. Total price - 128 RMB (18. 04) Rooster Garden - This was an epic meal, you go into an empty lot field in Chengdu, and all of a sudden theres a restaurant in the middle. They serve one thing - Sichuan Chinese rooster stew - all the rooster chopped up and braised in oily goodness sauce. We had 4. 5 kg. Rooster all in a single bowl. It was delicious 4. 5 KG rooster - 360 RMB (50. 75) People's Park - To rest our stomachs for a while, and wait for night time street food in Chengdu, we went to the park and enjoyed some tea. Kang Er Jie Chuan Chuan - If theres one Chinese food that is proudly from Chengdu, Sichuan, that would be chuan chuan. You choose a variety of skewers, and they are all boiled in a Sichuan soup in the kitchen before they bring them to your table. Possibly one of the worlds most addicting foods. Total price - 220 RMB (31. 01) Xia Lao Hui Crayfish and Pig Brains - Another popular food in Sichuan is crayfish and pig brains, and we got a platter of both, cooked in red chili oil and Sichuan peppercorns. Total price - 168 RMB (23. 68) Jie Mei BBQ (frogs) - Finally, to end this entire ultimate 14 hour Sichuan Chinese street food tour of Chengdu, we went to another Sichuan bbq restaurant where we ate chili frogs, and the owner surprised us with a massive tray of stir fried frog with chili and all sorts of amazing things. Price - 150 RMB (21. 14)

One of my favorite things (if not THE favorite reason for traveling) is eating. And for me, Chengdu is really THE FOOD PARADISE (I also like Chengdu a lot for other things - tea houses, sichuan opera, renmin park, markets, Jinsha archeological site, the Panda recovery places etc) - but food really stands out in Sichuan in general, and especially in Chengdu. I love everything spicy (but probably not quite as Mark; -, and I like to try unknown dishes, but I dont like organs and too meaty meat dishes. For me, the ultimate Chengdu meal, is huoguo. Sitting around a pot of a tasty spicy boiling broth / oil, getting to choose your ingredients on skewers, the dipping sauce, a couple of cold beers - it cant get better. I wish I was in Chengdu right now.

Just a comment about rabbit head, crawfish, duck feet and all the off-cut meat. These are popular snacks in China. Why? Because these meats were cheap, and take a long time to eat because you need to debone or peel the shells etc, the chinese believe that process is part of the fun of eating. Way enjoyable than bite size chunks of meat. I think same logic like IKEA, the time you put that meat in your mouth or tighten the last screw on the furniture, you feel so satisfied and complete, lol.

Mark, what is your secret? In this one day in Chengdu (in two videos) you eat so much food. You start with 8 or 9 breakfasts. After 2-3 of them I would be full for hours if not for the day. But no, just an hour or so later, you eat a huge lunch, followed by another one, and yet another one. And just a few hours later, there is dinner, which is not tiny either; -. And yet, you are so fit and slim. I dont get how you can fit so much into your stomach.

I am from Chengdu. This is exactly what/where locals eat. Not those famous posh restaurants. What a great food tour to experience authentic Sichuan cuisine Wish you had more time. As one of the four main cuisines in China, there are a lot more to taste and experience. You should do another collab with the Food Ranger in Chengdu, like you did in Thailand. I guess he is on a world noodle tour now, maybe next time.

It would be cool if they incorporated his wife's opinions on the foods, unless of course she didn't want to, however I feel it'd give the episodes a more full feeling of home in that whichever country he is in. You can tell shes been a big part of his career because she's incredibly understanding and willing to go anywhere with him, even while caring for their child.

Rabbit head - OK I might try that. Chicken feet - OK I might try that. But I stoutly maintain my conviction that blood and brains ARE NOT FOOD I feel that there is a price to pay, ultimately, for eating those. Aside from those issues, this is another great video, and I enjoyed it immensely. You do a wonderful job of enjoying this stuff for us, Mark.

Hey Mark, I emailed you some songs to listen to for your vid production: ) On your migrationology website there is a submit music button (which I did) and was wondering if anything came through. I would hate for my music to fall into the wrong hands and be used without my permission. So please let me know if you saw anything. Thanks

Yes, this is the perfect Foodie editing style Mark. 35 minutes just flew by and we smiled all the way. We're visiting our Louisiana farm home and got a kick out your Crawfish dinner. Kim says it's pronounced in the south (Cr-AU-fish) like (Au)stralia Lol. Thanks for the great foodie share. Blessings, James and Kim

Mark has the most adventurous appetite I've ever seen. I could not eat half of what he ate. it was actually disgusting but I couldn't stop watching. The actual rooster HEAD and comb. then the rabbit HEAD. noooooooo I couldn't do it. But Mark enjoyed every morsel. I wonder how Ying did lol

dunno why he was brought to the most undeveloped area of Chengdu. almost rural area. I am sure ordinary urban youngsters never go to these places. Chengdu city is super fancy yet grounded, the show should have shown that part. What is pop? Try some HeyTea, lele cha for example
