my Lisbon travel guide: Camera I use: On Day 24 of our Round the World Trip for Food with Star Alliance, in the morning we flew from Barcelona to Lisbon, Portugal on TAP Portugal airline. After checking into our hotel in Lisbon, we had lunch at a rather tourist Portuguese restaurant and then continued to do a little bit of sightseeing in Lisbon. For dinner, I enjoyed a trend Portuguese meal at Taberna da Rua das Flores. 1: 30 Star Alliance Flight #7 on TAP Portugal - The first thing we did during the day was head to the Barcelona airport to catch out flight to Lisbon. Our flight was with TAP Portugal airline, and the flight took about one hour. The flight was nothing special, but it was alright and we soon arrived to Lisbon Portela Airport. From the airport, we decided to take the Aero Bus #1 (3. 5 EUR per person) to Avenida da Liberdade which was right next to the hotel we would be staying at in Lisbon. 4: 34 The Fontecruz Lisboa Hotel (Marriott Hotel) - For our trip to Lisbon, we stayed at The Fontecruz Lisboa Hotel. Its a boutique hotel in Lisbon, located along the very pleasant Avenida da Liberdade, a wide and tree lined shopping street in Lisbon. I loved the area, and the hotel was alright, but I wasnt a huge fan of the dark black theme. 7: 25 Lunch at Restaurante Bonjardim - When we arrived to Lisbon we hadnt eaten lunch, so Ying and I were both extremely hungry. Unfortunately we just didnt have the energy to go very far to eat lunch (Ying was pregnant and she needed to eat fast. So we went to a Portuguese food restaurant just down the road from our hotel, and though it wasnt the most local Portuguese restaurant, we were hungry and the location was right (this is how it sometimes works when youre traveling. We both ordered the frango asado (roast chicken) and then a bowl of aroz Brasileiro, and a bowl of esparregado. The food was alright, not spectacular, but pretty decent, and it did feel great to eat some a big piece of chicken for some good protein

After seeing all these ceviche from all around the world, that you showed us thank you for that, I have to declare Peru the uncontested master. The choice of ingredients and the way and care given to all of them during the preparation in Peru cannot be compared and for a fraction of the price making it extremely underrated and underrepresented. See, before all you've given us, you GastrOrgasmiCosmical man (I had an inner fight, comical, cosmic, had have an inner vote and it was a tie so, I thought ceviche was just fish cubes and some vinegar or citrus with a few herbs; Peru changed all that the way one could fish a fish and eat it feral style but a sushi chef will represent the ultimate art of raw fish feasting one can never unknow once experienced.

Imo Barcelona and Lisbon are far too cosmopolitan for a true experience both food and culture. Have you been to Seville or the region of the Algarve? They do great coach trips along the coast, go to historical sites and you get the best local food. The sea port stops are great to see the fish markets and you get great local fish dishes. The Portuguese west peninsula is often windy but has lots of authenic goods with a good link to historical naval conquests So much more history and food. Seville has a massive cathedral, mosque, just worth the visit.

Yes, indeed all chilies come from America, and the Portuguese took them to Asia. Strangely enough the Spanish don't seem to like spicy food as much as the Portuguese. Hadn't it been for the earthquake of 1755, Lisbon would today be as rich in cultural landmarks as Paris or Rome. And even so I love it

I love how a bunch of people thinks they are smart and tried to give Mark cutlery advice on how to use fork and knife but most of these idiots didn't even notice Mark was cutting the chicken with the wrong side of the knife in the first place. Talk about trying to look smart but in the end did the opposite.

The chicken and the rice you just ate are not actually traditional, no matter what people might tell you. Since Portugal as been a center of imigration, for ages, means that we adapt foods from other cultures, like Mozambike, Angola, Brasil, and a bit from Macau, as well. :)

I've been following you on nearly all your trips to many countries. You came to Spain, in Barcelona concretely. It's too bad you did not come to Madrid. I've been living in the capital of Spain for 42 years now. There are many things to see, do and especially eat in Madrid.

Mark, you did not learn to use a knife and a fork. In Europe, it's a SHAME if you can not eat with fork and knife especially in luxury restaurants. A knife in the right hand and the fork is always in the left hand. People in America do not know how to use cutlery.

I may be wrong, but the Spanish conquistador chronicled the columbian exchange that detailed everything that was brought from Europe to south America and south America to Europe. Not saying the Portuguese were not involved, but I think Spain was a bigger player.
