Original Portuguese Egg Tarts and Secret Chinese Food in Lisbon Ivan Jetá: Restaurants close in the afternoon in Portugal from around 3pm to 6/7pm to prepare the room for dinner. Sunday is the buzziest day of the week for restaurants so most of them would be open at the right hours. Also the fish market next to the time out market closes at 1pm after opening at 7am. There are several clandestine Chinese restaurants in Lisbon but they wouldn't be my first choice for food vlogging. They're fun and cheap but not really something that relevant and Ginginha, Moscatel wine and Aguardente (distilled drink) are a few must haves.

Mark I wish you'd gone around the corner when you had the ginja. The oldest functioning grocery store in Lisbon is just on the left side of that (on the little side street) and they serve the MOST amazing acorn fed jamon. You would have loved it. It's expensive but so worth it. I ended up buying some as well as some fruit from there and strolling by the river for lunch.

The egg tart here is called Nata in my city and it's my favorite cake of all: DThe bola de berlim that i liked the most was a chocolate one i ate in Figueira da Foz. the last stop is something i want to do, i saw anthony bourdain too going there. i really like ginginha in a chocolate cup, yum

100% agreed with you on the not a fan of sweets. I have no idea how people can consume so much of those sometimes. especially chocolate, just ewwwww. that like chocolate hamburger you ate, hats off to you man, i wouldn't even have dared to take a bite of that, just way to much.

I think I understand now why you don't pass some of the food to your wife. If she ate like you, she would definitely get fat. And with her height, she definitely does not want to gain weight and get fat. She wants to maintain her figure by limiting her calories.

December 17, 2016 (Saturday)That was really interesting. Exploring places with narrow alleys and streets which have hidden restaurants with good meals. Definitely a must for those who travel to Lisbon, Portugal. Maribel L. ChungCity of AntipoloPhilippines

pasteis de nata (portuguese egg tarts) are one thing and pasteis de belem are another. First came pasteis de nata then came pasteis de belem. Franlky pasteis de belem (what you ate) are overrated. Stick to the good old pastel de nata. It's better.

Great video, Mark Yes, the legendary Ginjinha is wonderful and I mentioned it in the comments section of your Portuguese Food Tour video. There's another 'Ginja' in the area called 'Eduardina', you should have visited that one, as well.
