Sichon, Thailand - This is one of those pristine beach villages, that almost unseen Thailand, and what I loved so much about it was that its almost completely non-commercialized. Ok, so my wife and I were spending some time in Nakhon Si Thammart, southern Thailand, visiting family. Nakhon Si Thammart happens to be one of my favorite provinces in Thailand for Thai food, known for being spicy and harsh, and youll find some amazing cuisine. One day, we drove over to the tiny beach community village of Sichon, I had heard about a small local fish market, and I was excited to check it out. We arrived at about 8 am, and it was one of those place where I got so excited because it was picture perfect. But then I saw all the empty trays of fish and I thought I had arrived too late because all the fish were gone. Luckily, an Aunty explained that the fishing boats hadnt yet arrived, to my relief. The fish market itself was beautiful, filled with friendly people, small delicious Thai street food snacks, and scenery to dream about. We had some patongko ) - 10 THB (0. 28, Chinese doughnuts and Khanom krok ) - 20 THB (0. 58, coconut griddle cakes, for breakfast, as we waited for the boats to come in. Unfortunately the catch in Sichon ) today wasnt the best, they were mostly small fish and nothing too exciting. But I did notice an Aunty selling some eels, and that caught my attention. The next thing you know, I was on the back of her motorbike, and we went back to her house to cook spicy chili eel. It was truly an amazing experience seeing her cook the eel at her home in the village countryside. For the rest of the morning we drove around Sichon, enjoying the stunning beach coastal scenery and finding a few interesting things along the way. They dont really have many restaurants to choose from, so finally we found a small Halal eater on the side of the beach and went for it. Again, the Auntys were extremely friendly, and we ordered a few simple Thai dishes to eat along with the eel. Sichon ) is a true off the beaten path destination in Thailand, and what I loved so much about it is that its so non-commercialized, peaceful and quiet, and the people in the community are so friendly and hospitable. Its one of the most memorable places Ive traveled in Thailand in a long time Sichon, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand

Someday when I get a chance to go to Thailand I would love it if I could have Mark tour me to places like these. Not necessarily the tourist heavy attractions in Bangkok or Phuket but small coastal towns like these where you can get fresh ingredients and awesome food while enjoying the breeze of the sea. Its just simply nostalgic at how I remember when I was a kid going to see my Grandmother who lives near the ocean as well. And I would remember that if enough people who lived in the city who are born locals of that town come back for the weekend that the whole town just celebrates and just goes all out fishing. Just to serve all the people who came back and turn into a really big occasion. It was always a feast of clams, fish, crabs, lobsters, prawns, and geoducks.

Hi Mark, the people are indeed friendly. And don't forget too that you had shown much respect to them. I'm very impressed by your high level of courtesy and respectfulness to them. Great job This is one of your best video, if not the best. The manner you connect to the locals is admirable. This video is more than just about food

It's amazing how words of different regions are either common or really close to each other in pronunciation or spelling. Kapi or shrimp paste in Thai. Nghapih means the same thing in mizo, which is a language spoken by mizos of North eastern India. Spelling is different but the pronunciation is remarkably similar.

Great video, Mark. Love your Thailand Street Food/Food Tour Videos. At first, I only came for your trips to Japan (I hope you visit again for longer and other prefectures, but instantly fell in love with these local videos, too. Also, keep the signature expression. I mimic it everytime I eat something good now

I lived near Sichon Police Station almost 23 years and just move out couple years ago. I have been there many times and it's so beautiful like always. A lot of my friends live there. Most of them are muslim. This video make me miss them and this beautiful village so much.

I had that same eel from a seafood restaurant, you pick any fresh fish they have and they'll cook it how you want it. I remembered the eel taste mild, sweet and and on a soft side. It didn't taste buttery like you described. All your foods looks delicious.

Hey Mark. I can sense u like foods a lot and ur reactions and comments about food are all but similar or identical in that sense. Maybe u could rate the foods in ur videos by giving them a rating, say 1-10? Keep up the good work. I'm an avid fan of ur vids.

Thanks for another great adventure. You remind me of how important family is. I think I will take my son around NYC to sample Thai curry. He likes extra spicy, but I like the flavor, not so spicy. Any recommendations?
