Which Japanese tonkatsu would you prefer to try? Or try them both in Tokyo. Tonkatsu is a Japanese food that has international influence - it was originally a dish inspired from a European fried meat cutlet like Wiener Schnitzel, but its now one of the common Japanese dishes. Usually a pork cutlet is dipped in egg and flour, coated in breadcrumbs, and deep fried to a golden crisp. Tonkatsu is served with rice, cabbage salad, and a tonkatsu sauce which typically consists of Japanese worcestershire. Just like with all types of Japanese food, theres everything from fast food restaurants serving tonkatsu, to gourmet high end restaurants serving Tonkatsu. So for this video I wanted to taste two of the best tonkatsus in Tokyo, eat them back to back, and compare their differences and decided on a winner since they were so different, it ended up being a little harder to compare than I had first thought

Hi Mark, I trust this finds you and your family well: )I have been watching your travel food videos for over a year now and I am envious of the places you travel to and the yummy food you get to sample. I am a freelance geologist and have travelled to approximately 30 countries to date. I love to travel and I love food: )I am semi-resident in Thailand as my wife is also Thai. It would be great to bump in to you in Bangkok some day. Your latest video is of great interest to me as I have to travel to Tokyo early January to get a business visa for Mali, West Africa, for my next contract. My hotel is within walking distance of the Tonkatsu Tonki restaurant. My future colleague has already sampled the food there and recommended it. Some of my ex-Japanese class mates from University in Edinburgh will be meeting up with me to show me around. I hope they know this place, if not, I will suggest it to them. I hope you and your family had a great Christmas and I wish you all Chok Dii Khrap for 2018 CheersSebastian

he has tought me how to eat more healthy and loose weight: , instead of eating a lot, its more satisfiying to eat less but better and more variety. and freshness is important. and that salads and vegetables make food even tastier. overeaters should watch this videos. everyone who have effed up relationship with food should watch his videos, to reintroduce what actually eating and food and cooking is about. videos teach how to choose food and how to get maximal enjoyment out of eating. its kind of a therapy. it has inspired me to eat more healthy and cook more myself and try new things. he has changed my view towards food. to enjoy it more at the same time no need to consume so big quantities. japanese style is rather inspiring. although i dont uderstand why they need to have so many different kind of dishes in one meal. also learning about other cultures

Putting this out there. If your fat or a really big person Golden Boar would not be best place to go. I attempted to go with some of my friends a couple of days ago and they assumed we didn't know Japanese. Sadly as we arrived we were constantly insulted about our size saying that we would definitely not fit inside the restaurant and other things. The thing is we did fit and sadly we had to walk out of the establishment since after sitting they were still taking about some of us. I def wish I had a chance to eat here and would love to say that you shouldn't since the service we received was terrible but eyy if your not fat/tall/big/oversized? by all means enjoy your self: D. Tonkatsu tonki is great tho would def recommend it.

Given your trips to Germany and reviews of food there, I would appreciate your making a direct comparison between the golden boar dish and your basic German breaded pork schnitzel. This looked like schnitzel, but with breading that looked like tempura style. And what is with the bowl of salad, this looks like maybe American influence on what is served with such a meat heavy dish? Enjoy your videos, impressed by your family endeavor. I also very much enjoy your filming public spaces on your way to and outside the food locations you review, it adds so much, allows the viewer to experience the culture so directly.

Its so great that you enjoyed it so much. love to watch you and you make me soooo hungry. This is called a pork schnitzel in germany. You can use pices with no fat on it, but I like it with fat. It tasts much better. Its made in a frying pan with a lot of oil or grease. The meat needs to swim in the oil/grease. Love the similarity in the food between Japan and Germany. Oh, pork should taste like pork. I had this piece of meat from our butcher last week. It was a pig that was older then 8 month and the meat was nice and dark. It did tasted like pork and my mom loved it.

At the end when you showed the pricing at the second restaurant, I was stunned at the reasonable price. I have never been to Japan, but my experience in London and the prices of food there had led me to expect similar insane pricing in Tokyo. Thanks for sharing that information, too, it also helps to understand the context and culture. Heck, we decided yesterday to have Round Robin hamburgers here where we live, and I think I spent as much on burgers and fries and onion rings and slaw for two as you did on that second meal.

I reccomend for Sundanese you can try Gubug udang mang engking or Bumbu desa. for details you can google them. on Bali, try Sambal matah, sambal mbe, Sate babi bawah pohon, babi guling bu oka, ayam betutu and sate lilit. love from Indonesia
