Welcome to Madrid, Spain, home to the oldest continually open restaurant in the world, since 1725. Tonight I m going with my friends Jeffrey and Hsien to go eat some of their signature dishes, and I can t wait to share this legendary meal with you right now. Sobrino de Bot n or Restaurant Bot n is not only the oldest restaurant in Spain, but the oldest restaurant in the world, operating since 1725. They specialize in Spanish food and particularly roast suckling pig, which they ve been serving ever since they opened. What s also amazing is that their stone oven fire is never extinguished, it s been flaming and never gone out ever since they ve been open. We started off our meal with a few sides and beginning dishes, some baby eels - a delicacy in Spain in olive oil, garlic, and a few dried chilies. They were excellent, although very expensive. Next we had a few vegetable based dishes, some beans with jamon and mushrooms topped with olive oil and garlic. After that I had a chance to see in the horno or the oven room the preparation of the suckling pig. It s roasted for approximately 2 hours, basted with a sauce to increase the crispiness of the skin. The suckling pig is served in a massive clay boat sized tray and typically served onto your own individual plate. The suckling pig is delicious, and I especially enjoyed all that meat broth at the bottom of the pan. Finally for dessert we had a milk cake and the highlight was a Spanish cheesecake. Although Sobrino de Bot n or Restaurant Bot n, being the oldest restaurant in the world is a tourist attraction, they have maintained the quality of their food and I think it was well worth a visit, especially for any food lover, it s truly a landmark pilgrimage destination. Total price - 543. 89 ( 552. 46) for 4 adults. The eels were very pricey, everything else was reasonable.

My second home Italy & Spain. First home Balkan & India. Asia like Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese & Chinese foods, Arab foods & morocco foods. Life is so beautiful. When you experienced so much while traveling, studying & working with amazing people around the globe. Then you marry woman who's culture is rich, can cook, earns good money, take cares of our huge family. and got no boundaries when it comes about cooking & eating amazing foods.

Saw that restaurant on bizarre foods for the first time. Although the suckling pig is awesome, they normally only serve it whole for large parties, otherwise you only get a portion. Honestly the place has awesome food, but is overrated and overpriced. For a special occasion, yes, for everyday dining, their are better options.

Thank you for posting the bill! You were not joking about how expensive the eels were! The little plate of eels was almost the same price as the whole pig. And one of the bottles of wine was also the same cost. So for people on more limited budgets you can enjoy this restaurant if you skip the eels and expensive wine

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks that Madrid is of a stunning beauty! You'll often hear other cities and areas in Spain being mentioned and praised, but hardly ever Madrid. I just managed to watch the video to the end, and, the deserts, oh my god, I'd be rolling myself in it, if I could.

Pig's head at 18: 13. I used to get adult pig's head at a Chinese BBQ. The guy would not sell it by the half so I would find another couple and we would split the cost and the guy would split the skull. The best part was the cheek/jowels and the brain salad (brain.

I've been to that incredible establishment. Eating in the markets and jungle of Thailand is one thing, but to eat like that in a restaurant of that caliber and history is pretty shameful. JBH

its not the oldest in the world, there's a restaurant in stockholm sweden that opened in 1722 and is still opened to this day and it's called Den Gyldene Freden! so sweden wins on this one mark.

Great video which gives us visualization and clue of how dining may have been at the past in Spanish culture. Mark you will always be the best food culture vlogger. Greetings from Nairobi Kenya.

It s hard to have a restaurant open for 3 years. You become an icon if they get to see 30 years, but 300? It becomes a world destination, a culinary wonder. Love this place!

And who is the cook in the kitchen for the pigs? A filipino. They also do suckling pig, and also for longer than 300 years now: ) I am sure the Lechon Baboy is masarap

Unfortunately you are wrong it's not the oldest restaurant in the world however you are still the biggest BLAGGER On utube. You just make things up as you go alone!

Jeffrey is my favorite sidekick of Mark's. Always absolutely gorging himself with fatty, juicy pork with his entire face glistening in the juices in a drunken stupor.

It looked like style over substance to me. the pig was cooked too long and in general Spanish food is pretty poor. great location poor food for me. at that price.
