Get ready to try some unique Eastern Thai food in beautiful village in Trat Day 4 (Trat ): Eastern Thailand Food and Travel Tour. Watch all 8 videos here: Trat ) is a beautiful tropical province in Eastern Thailand, home to a wonderful culture and lots of delicious food. But one of the best places to eat Thai food is in someone's home, home cooked food is the best. So today we had the opportunity to visit a village in Trat, forage for a few ingredients, and cook some amazing, very local regional specialities. Baan Huai Raeng ) - This is a beautiful tropical village, and they also offer home-stays and cultural tourism. I contacted them to arrange a food experience, and I think they did a fantastic job. Khao haw kab mak ) - This is the first dish that Aunty made, a mix of fried rice and ingredients all within a banana leaf and another outer wrapper. It was a delicious mix, soothing in the morning. Khanom jeen sao nam ) - This wasnt planned at all, but Uncle was planning for another group and decided to make a dish for all of us to eat - khanom jeen sao nam. This is a Royal Thai food dish, thats not common to find, and it was delicious. HEre are the two main regional Thai food dishes we cooked: Sour curry with local vine called sandan ) - I still cant find the name in English of the local vine, and they made a sour curry with fish and shrimp. Awesome dish. Gaeng kradom ) - The little fruit is called Gymnopetalum chinense in English and its bitter tasting. They made a curry with shrimp and curry paste. It was awesome, I loved the bitterness. Interesting ingredients: Chamuang ) - gacinia cowa Bai sandan ) - local vine Kradom ) - Gymnopetalum chinense It was a fantastic day in Trat, exploring regional Thai food and unique dishes and ingredients in the village

What an amazing family Their compound is so beautiful and perfect, everything they need, fruit, vegetables, access to the river to forage and fish, just perfect. It makes me want to move to Thailand and live in the country Question, Are off grid tours like this available to regular tourists? It would be awesome to drive out and spend time with a family like this, cooking and eating this fantastic, clean food Thanks for the great post, Mark

Kratom is native to Southeast Asia and has opiod properties. Im Malaysian and consuming/cultivating Kratom trees are illegal here. Im pretty sure its the same in Thailand. I've never seen it before myself, you're so lucky you got that opportunity to experience something even most locals wouldn't have had a chance to try.

Hi Mark, I am a big fan of you and I wish you need to explore a place in southern part of india which no international travellers has experienced. I am happy to be your host during your time. Please let me know if you are planning. I am sure many of your fans would like that place which i am talking about.

Oh Mark I have driven to TRAT so many times en route to Koh Chang and only stopped off to buy fruit (mainly sala which I love) but your vlog has totally opened my eyes to what can and should be enjoyed in TRAT. That royal dish that 'uncle' made. WOW Great, great vlog, Mark. I sooooo enjoy enjoyed this.

I understand that Cambodian fish sauce is far better than the Thai Fish Sause and of course with the Thai Baht being strangely so strong against other global currencies, I recommend your first choice for Fish Sauce should be purchased from Cambodia and NOT Thailand

Trat is my home town and you put me into a shame as some dish I have never try since it's a very unique to a certain area. One thing tho, you make me miss how lush green and organic life my people lead. I am missing those organic supermarket around the house.

Brother Mark, courage. I know the garlic might not be as appetizing as you look, but keep it up. If it is same garlic we use, and for it to be raw, added with ginger, you definitely have a right to sweat and move the camera (13: 10 - 13: 20. God Bless you.
