I have no reason to believe anyone in this video is lying, but based on the 9 years I was in the Navy and the thousands of hours I put in as TAD in the galley, what I saw on a daily basis was overwhelmingly lazy people occupying these jobs. It seemed like 15% of the people that worked back there actually had pride in their rate and did a good job, the rest were all freeloaders. People that didn't do their freaking job and spent all day scheming and skating to get out of work. One of the reasons I left the Navy was that these freeloaders (and they are in EVERY job, not just CS) were never corrected. Leadership never took action. The chiefs mess was the good-ol-boys club, operating in a mafioso style where they helped their friends and couldn't care less about those they didn't like.

When I was in the navy the food was ok but we use to put the syrup on all of our breakfast and for me that was my supper. I worked 7pm to 7am on the flight for our squadron on board the USS Guam and USS Guadalcanal. Our main meal was mid rats usually rice and bread with bug juice ( kool aid ) to drink. We would miss lunch because we where sleeping and supper of getting ready to take over for day shift. I lost 50 pounds on each deployment and I-d still do it again.

I'll be honest, working on many Major motion pictures it makes me a little sad how amazing the food is on set compared to what our fighting men and women get which is basically, bacon, eggs, and hashbrowns which after 5 days, they are probably sick of. Wish they could have more elaborate food, they have certainly earned it! ---Thank you for serving and protecting all of us: )

I was a cook in the Army and we got no appreciation even though we worked longer and harder than anyone. We would work from 4AM until about 8PM. Then we would have a guard shift overnight which was either one or two hours. If the food was not on the serving line in time, we got in trouble. I was obviously never on a ship but can relate to the pressure of serving so many people.

A interesting question I have-How much is the daily food allowance in - per sailer per day in the US Navy? -In the German Navy it is at the moment - 5. 15 per day per crewman. not a lot! -But whilst at sea we get 3 cans of beer on top when off duty. every 24 hrs. -Cheers-from a German serving Navy Obermaat(second lowest NCO rank. -Would love to find out.

Yep, I would not survive in the forces. not with those same food. Burgers that I hate. even breakfast seems bland. Frankly, based on the food options, I rather just eat McDonalds and get obese all the time. Idk how ppl do it. You may as well just give me bland potato salads all day.

As a Marine, I served on the Nashville, Shreveport, Moore county, Guam, Siapan, Raleigh, JFK. Nassau. The food was always the best part. Especially coming back from an operation. Props to everyone on those mess decks.

This would have to be the one group of people on the ship that everybody knows are there, but very few really appreciate the time and effort and manpower they put into keeping the rest of the ship fed. Great video

When I was in GTMO, they used to drain the bacon in pans with toast at the bottom to soak up the grease. I used to ask for the toast once I got in good with the Chow Hall people. Leeward was the best!

My favorite food hack was toasted wheat bread with peanut butter, jelly and cream cheese. When the galley isn't open, they still have snacks to hold you over, so this was the best I could do.
