Ok the butter keeper, first of all the butter does not get wet. The water is there, I presume, to form a seal to keep air out, you dont (or at least I dont) put in enough water to get the butter wet. It doesnt get wet. Secondly, the butter does not fall out thats retarded. You dont fill it with semi soft butter you fill it with regular butter, like kerrygold salted (or kerrygold unsalted, I keep salted to spread on toast or bread, thats the whole point of a butter keeper you can use regular butter and its spreadable it would defeat the purpose to buy the shitty land o lakes canola oil spreadable dogshit. Ive been using one for a couple of months and the butter has never gotten wet and never fallen out, just perfectly spreadable REAL butter. When it runs out, I wash it before refilling and replacing the water. And no it doesnt go in the fridge it goes on the counter. Buy one.

proud Welshman here. Definitely not traditional, but who cares. What's great is that you're sharing traditional foods from around the world! I'd suggest a bit of wholegrain mustard & definitely more cheese! You also want to chuck it back under the grill once you've topped the toast, get a little bit of colour on that sauce. Butter is mostly fat, which is 100% fine at room temp. People don't keep their cooking oil in the fridge, so why keep butter in the fridge. The worst that will happen is that the butter will go rancid and taste a little sour after a few weeks! but butter barely lasts a few days in our house!

Everything I've ever read says you can definitely keep butter out at room temperature, but with the caveat that you leave it in an airtight container. The recommended amount of time you can keep butter out at room temperature is up to two weeks or so depending on the type of butter, but again, that is assuming you have it in an airtight container. Also, you're not supposed to put butter back in the fridge if you let it soften. That encourages bacterial growth.

Thanks for this video, Sam. Brings back memories. I grew up in the 60's and 70's in a not so well to do home and my Mom used to make this a couple of times per week for dinner. I think she used Velveeta and she DEFINITELY used white Wonder bread in the toaster. (The Wonder bread bags were used as boot liners in the winter time to keep our feet dry from the snow. This is such an amazing recipe! Can't wait to try it. I hope it is as good as Mom's.

I was out driving through Massachusetts one day when my niece called. She said she was at my parents house and had made baked macaroni and cheese and wanted to know if I was going to be there for supper. I asked her where she got the cheese from. She said there was a block in the fridge. At this point I turned left into Vermont, to replace the 50. 00 block of sharp Vermont cheese she had used. White Cheddar. The sharper the better.

i didn't know people got pissy about butter being left out? apparently they have shit butter if they were worried about it going bad in the time until it is used. i always have at least one stick of butter out softened and only use it for spreading and i use the fridge butter for cooking. sounds like someone had some butter that didn't have all the buttermilk removed and it went bad on the counter and they assumed all butter would do that.

Hey Sam, I live in Brazil and it is very hot in here. Despite that, everyone who is not a dumbass keeps butter soft and out of the fridge. Our butter tends to come in a different way than the US ones (its more of a retangular thing if you buy the good stuff, but every house here has like a glass thing where you put it for serving, but when you're done eating there is a lid that comes with it so you close it up.

Hyeyour recipe sounds fabulous. One thing use oven mitts, It will save you from bad burns. I had a relative who had really bad burns. I will try your recipe is the Kerrygold cheese' Yes bacon. yes seasonings, I will omit beer flavor unless I get' Kerrygolds' type which has it in it. Please get oven mitts much safer. It wlll save you from a lifetime of explatives. Having to take piankillers would suck.

Butter bells work. Fill it with cold butter, then leave it out ambient. Make sure the bell is dry when you fill it. Mission complete. Incidentally, only last week, I got pissed off with cold hard butter, so I left a block on the countertop still in its foil and used it for a few days, and it was magic. Haven't died yet. I'm gonna buy a butter bell. Used one years ago. Keeps it fresh and soft.
