Our firsts this year are Sweetcorn, Beetroot, Spinach\ chad, Courgette and Asparagus. Novice London based. Nervously cut off our Rhubarb excess bulbs this winter. Mother and babies are already doing well.
Have already under estimated how well the courgette plants are in the 1 ft wide tub! There are seedlings everywhere in the house! I got my workbench out next to my mini propagator. I might get the ironing board out next! lol
The tops of my sweetcorn seedlings have gone brown since i moved them. too little sun? over watering? too cold? Ive moved them upstairs as they were doing well and needed space for the other stuff.
Another mistake we made was getting the soil from our large bedding plot. Whilst we dumped alot of good stuff into it over winter and picked out any roots. We are now finding last years tomato seeds growing in our pots! lol a) i thought we just had one bell pepper growing to b) no it's now a healthier Cherry Tomato plant from last year! lol
Going to rehome and try again with bell peppers.

Re: rattail radish-- If people wanted try it without buying a special variety, any radish will give you pods if you let it flower and pollinators really like the flowers (they're lovely flowers I think. Then you can try them out and see if you like pods enough to get a special variety just for big pods. I found them to be a little much (like super spicy) and little bit of them went a long way so I don't think I will try that variety again. I think I'll just let the occasional radish bolt and then have a little bit for a garnish in the summertime. Red rambo radish makes a purple-colored pod that looks pretty cool!

Kale is more weather hardy becayse its a GMO created plant. It did not naturally occur, and was created by scientists.
It also should be noted, that if you feel some gastrointestinal distress from spinach and kale, its because they are very high in Oxalates. Which is literally micro crystal shards that shred your inners. So any high oxalate greens should be consumed by minimally, if at all.
My green onions and chives grow year round for me, and Im zone 4 in Montana.
Have you tried trapping the skunk? Thats what folks around here do with them. Then u just call animal control to come pick them up.

Very informative video! Gave some great ideas, thanks! I have a quick question. Ive had a pineapple sage plant for a few years now, and until I saw one of your videos that included it a few months ago, I didnt know it flowered! Mine is probably 4-5 feet around and a few feet tall. I have never seen a flower. Its been in a huge container for its whole life. Do you have any ideas as to why it has never had any flowers? I love it for its smell and I use it for flavor, too, so the lack of flowers is certainly not a death sentence for this plant! Thanks for any ideas, if you have any! (Im in Zone 9a, btw)

This was so encouraging! I've ordered 35 different seeds for this year and I thought maybe I was totally insane but you make me believe I can do it. Do the Golden Beets taste different than the usual red ones? Part of expanding my garden so much is getting myself to eat more vegetables but root crops are a real struggle. Red beets taste like dirt to me.

I have been loving growing plants Ive never grown before this past season: kohlrabi, nasturtium, tatsoi, and more. I saw your video with Richard from Grafting Dragonfruit which got me to dig up a neglected cutting. I got 3 new varieties, one of them needs hand pollination: Vietnamese white, Edgars Baby, and American Beauty.

Soooo helpful & insightful. Thanks. But. now I want to grow ALL THE THINGS! LOL. So many cool varieties to try. I would LOVE to see videos of what you do in Summer & Fall/Winter. Your videos have taught a lot about improving my gardening here in San Diego. Thank you so much!

Gardening in zone 10A over here and wondering if you could put together a master list of varieties you mention (or link one you have already) for us folks trying to garden in San Diego! All of our lettuces, broccolis, mustards, and arugula bolted recently and it bums me out.

Can someone tell me when he moved to this new property? I guess I have videos to catch up on.
Thank you for the info on difference between hard & soft neck garlic. I purchased garlic at my local nursery & the workers could not tell me the difference between them.

I've been an amateur gardener for a while now. My garden has been looking a bit sparse recently so I bought some borage, calendula, basil, and tomato seeds to grow this warm season! Can't wait for them to ship cause I'm excited as hell to get planting

Please dont take this as a criticism but I dont understand your layout. It seems like an inefficient use of space compared with, for example, the 30 raised bed etc. Are you on rented land? Why all the containers? Thanks!

Pineapple sage, chiseled on top of a fresh tabbouleh, can be a good idea. I noticed that you have quiet some species with medicinal properties. Maybe, in a near future, you could talk about those benefits too.
