Patio Containers Window Baskets Grass Seed Garden Answer BMac: Love your pot combinations! I try to copy where I can. lol. I have a tall patio container similar to your Crescent Garden Bleeker model. It has quite a deep double-walled planting interior container which requires a lot of unused/unnecessary potting mix. Plus it makes the planter unnecessarily heavy when I need to move it. I know some gardeners suggest filling the bottom with styrofoam peanuts which just doesn't seem practical, plus soil works it's way through the peanuts over time. Do you have suggestions you have found successful? Thanks!

If that were my shed, I would first change the door and put something in really cute! Then I would put a wood deck where the rocks are and a good size pergola over that with beautiful vines that change color in the fall. I don't think you have enough vines in your landscaping! Lastly, I would add a rocking chair and really cozy hammock that says, 'come here and lay down, you're tired! ' This is NOT a good shed for chickens, sorry! It's not enough room. They will not be happy there.

Your garden is coming along very nicely. I am absolutely in love with the Quicksilver Artemisia, and I am devastated because I cannot find it anywhere! I am so envious, Laura; you get the best plants. Also, I noticed your prickly pear cactus had tons of flower buds on them. Have you seen them in bloom? What color are they? I have an opuntia Baby Rita (purple pads. They make the most beautiful specimens in tall terra cotta pots.

Laura,
2 questions: could you explain why you top dress your garden beds with compost instead of with wood mulch or rocks? I'm curious because I thought you potted plants with compost.
Second question (may be silly): is it possible to start grass in water and once they start to sprout put them in the dirt? I just have a heck of a time making grass grow.
Thanks

Even getting information about how to patch a spot in the lawn is so helpful. Love the information on the mulch as well. As a novice, I no nothing about the differences. G & B it is! I have a cat too that would love to play in the mulch so putting the light cover on until its starts to grow is a great idea. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! prrrrrr

The easiest way to get rid of ants is to mix a couple gallons of water with a cup of the cheapest dish washing soap and pour that down the ant mounds. Repeat in about a week and ants are gone. If you continue t see ants then repeat another time. I deal with fire ants and their Hugh mounds. It works for me every time.

Hi Laura can you do a video on the hand held blower that you use. Is it easy to turn on, is it heavy etc? I have a gas one but it can be difficult to turn on because I have to pull the cord in order to turn it on and it hurts my shoulder, it doesn't always turn on with one pull. Much appreciated.

Those are beautiful. I love those silver grey looking leaves as well. It looks like you are just sticking in the pot not in the soil is that correct? I'm fixing to be working on 1st garden planters and such decisions to make. Loving your site.

I live in SW FLORIDA. Love your videos. I have trouble keeping plants alive in this heat. What the nurseries say FULL SUN doesn't always work in this intense heat. Any suggestions? Also, what's the best potting soil for container planting?
