I had propagated the Pineapple head this past March. My plant is doing really great however recently the temperature is starting to drop and I have started noticing few portion on the foliage what appears to be like a thinning process of the leaves going on. Not quite sure what that is. Could it be that it is needing a bigger pot? Could I bring this inside and winterize it. I do have bright light situation inside my house but not a lot of sunlight comes through. Would this help my plant? Please help.

again - another great informative video. I have a suggestion for another topic. Now that we are putting our gardens to bed, I would like to get my tools in shape. Small tools are all dirty and unfortunately my pruners are rusty. ( must have left them out too many times) What is the best way to get them back to good shape AND keep them that way? You may have done this in the past, but I couldn't find it. Thanks!

I'm not sure if I left my Callistemon Bottle Brush outside too late, since it was in the 35-40o range when I brought it inside.
The leaves are almost completely dried up but they are still attached and not totally crispy.
Will it recover?
I'm going to keep it until it looks totally dead, or if it doesn't start new growth in Spring I'll compost it.
Any suggestions?

We didn't have a lot of room and not enough light to overwinter our geraniums. We used to trim them back a bit, unpot them and gently tease off the dirt. Then we hung them upside down in the unfinished attic. Then when it was time, we'd pot them back up and set them out. Usually we had to trim a bit after they started to grow, but we never lost a plant that way.

I bring inside a passion flower vine in a hanging pot and a jasmine, both of which are not hardy in my zone 6. I do fertilize them during winter and the passion flower blooms although not as heavily as in summer. And sometimes my jasmine will start blooming as early as February which is heavenly. Great video, now I know to refresh the soil and spray for bugs!

Quick question: I have always been told to bake pine cones to kill bugs that maybe nesting in them (especially spiders. Is this really necessary as I noticed in one of your videos you gathered the pine cones and top dressing your window boxes? I love using pine cones in winter but if I am wasting my time baking. I don't need that!

Laura, do you all have a Master Gardener program in your state? We do in SC and the Master Gardeners are volunteers who agree to take extensive gardening classes as well as devote some number of hours volunteering for public projectsoften giving classes for free at the local library. They are a great resource for answering questions.

Tip! Make sure the plant is not toxic to your pets! I have a dedicated grow room where I keep my plants. I have many toxic succulents- for example string-of-pearls that need to be away from pets and little ones. I see many folks bringing in tropical hybiscus and other toxic plants. Take a moment to research and be safe!
