Massive Tool Haul! Garden Answer Inigo: I recently passed up the PowerGear2 Hedge Shears for a larger shear without gearing, because I want a tool I can use more aggressively on dense blackberries. The gearing on that tool makes it take so much longer to cover the same area, and requires such a large range of motion to operate. It doesn't have the hook shape that allows you to bring force to bear on thick branches, so I really couldn't get value out of the gearing. I think my dad might be better off with something like that though, he was getting pretty worn out with the straight shears, and I can see the appeal of taking it slower if you are pruning something you've planted intentionally instead of clearing out bushes entirely.
The power gear lopper is amazing though. I used that to cut through 3. 5 inch tree trunks. It really swings above its weight, and lets me reserve the saw for fewer things. My other loppers were getting a bend in the handle from how hard I was trying to cut through things with them.

I'm on the fence when it comes to Fiskar tools. I've bought various pruners from them off and on throughout the years only to be completely disappointed because of the locking mechanism. Without fail they always broke because the locking mechanism was plastic and just wouldn't last. This year I have had fairly good success with their hand pruner because the lock is different - perhaps improved? I've also been playing with their snips too, which seem to be okay (but again, they don't have a locking mechanism to break. Still, they are not the first garden tools I jump for. I would like to know how well Gardener's Supply pruners are in comparison as well as some other brands that are out there.

Russell in the Box! Lol! One day it will be Benjamin. This was a fun unpacking! Lots of cool finds. Amazon just had the Fiskar hand pruners on sale but I missed it! I am watching to see if they do it again (or maybe the Felcos will be on sale) I know it is important marketing for companies and Fiskar really sent you a nice collection of items. Good for you (and them)

I use a post hole digger to plant trees and shrubs. You have better control over the size of hole you dig with the post hole digger. Also less disruption of the plants in an established bed. Planting the small Splinter Boxwoods would take no time at all using the post hole digger. Think giant bulb planter! LOL

The best Tool I own is the Fiskars power stroke pole pruner. It is lightweight for me, I am 70, and is about 6 ft so easy to carry about my wooded property. It reaches into knarly shrubs and overhanging branchs making it so versatile. Mine is over 8 years old and still going strong, so hope they still make it.

We have quit a few those tools and Love them. Fiskars is the gold standard for many crafters and sewers when it comes to cutting tools and in the garden, the tools stand up to that high industry standard without breaking the bank. The only other brand we buy for garden hand tools is Root Slayer.

The post hole digger is one of my most used tools on our farm. Grew up farming and have spent lots of time putting in posts for fencing out pastures and keeping them solid so animals dont get out: ) Im jealous youve never used one a bit, but wouldnt change my farm life for anything Love you guys

I only use post hole diggers to dig my holes for planting trees. I'm 5'4 120 lbs so they give me added power. They cut through large roots and they are so much easier to use in my yard than shovel of any kind. If you don't use yours, pass them on! The are amazing for planting!
