Simple Winter Containers! Garden Answer Andrea: I would like to know if there are any types of evergreens like spruce or pines that only grow to around 6 to 8 feet. I have a huge yard full of oak trees, but I want to squeeze in an evergreen or two so we aren't looking at bare trees all winter long, but I was hoping to put one up fairly close to our shed that my husband built. We live in zone 8b. I need to get some hellebores now, they are so beautiful! Thank you for reminding us that minimal and simple containers are just as beautiful as multiple plants in containers. I can't wait to see your home all dressed up for Christmas!

Oh my! I think that's a pretty heavy burden for those lovely hellebores to carry! ALL the blame! Ha! I love the simplicity and restfulness of these containers - so very classic! You mentioned 'another 4 things for Aaron to put Christmas lights on' and that reminded me that I should ask again - do you have a favorite source for outdoor Christmas lights? Our inherited lights all just gave up the ghost last Christmas after 15+ years of faithful service - and I have no idea where to shop for lights that will last.

Hi Laura, I am wondering, I just watched your Highlights video about making various holiday planters and arrangements. I am wondering if you could do a video to show us how you choose where to cut your plants / trees / shrubs for flower arranging purposes. I have a small Fat Albert Blue Spruce in my yard that is still growing to full height however, I can't imagine ever being able to cut from it for arrangements without ruining its shape. Are you able to comment or video on your thoughts? Thank you Laura.

So beautiful Laura, I just love how you design your containers. I have serious envy on how to do some of these same designs in my own tiny yard, and I will figure it out, I know it will never be as amazing as your landscape is, but maybe I can have a tiny bit of beauty this next year in my own yard due to all of the great ideas you have given me, this all makes my head spin with so many ideas. Thank you so much for another amazing and wonderful video, I'm looking forward to the next container project.

I've grown evergreens for years on my old property which was mostly woods. You mentioned the blue spruce needing full sun. Why is that? I always think of evergreens growing in the woods. Huh! Ya learn new things ever day! PS: Russell always makes my day when he pops into a video at the perfect moment! Love you guys! And I've learned so much even though I'm old enough to be your mother! Keep up the good work!

Your containers are so inspiring! I never attempted them before watching your videos and now I have at least six of them in the front yard of my small urban city lot. Also, I'm so curious as to what your gardening budget is? Would you be willing to share ballpark spending on one of your week in reveiw videos? Thanks as always for the inspiration. I'll be shopping for hellebores this weekend now; )

Ok you've spilled the beans, Christmas lights? Do you all wake up in the morning and both of you take off to get your outside jobs done before the other one. lol Your containers look beautiful. I can't wait to see the Christmas lights that Aaron is hanging. He always does such a beautiful show. I know you are probably setting up your trees also. I need to get busy around here. lol

What do you do with the ivy when you take it out of containers? I always thought ivy was an invasive monster, like a morning glory or vinca minor. Because of that, I thought you couldn't just throw it in the dead weed/annual plants pile. If it's a perennial and you'd want to reuse it, where would you suggest planting it so it didn't take over the garden?

So many beautiful combinations that I would have never thought of living in Southern CA! I actually wish we could do more seasonal, especially winter-type plants. But in zone 9b, I've still got petunias, verbenas, bacopas, and others blooming like crazy. It's sort of an endless Spring that others would envy, but gets kind of boring.

Im sorry but another question, if I should happen to order some of the cement planting containers how do they come? They are so heavy does Fedex or Ups deliver them? Im not sure but I think they have weigh restrictions. The containers are so beautiful but I dont know how I would get them if I did place an order for them.
