Talking Greenhouses from Inexpensive to Luxury! Garden Answer Tina: My husband built my last greenhouse and when we moved I really missed it. It gave us an idea of what we would like on our new green house. We have been looking at the Hartley collection for quite a while and each time I flipped through their catalogs I would hum and ooh over the Victorian Grand Manor. To my surprise it was delivered 3 days before Christmas on multiple pallets. Due to the size we had to get building permits. My husband mapped the area before purchasing. My son did a beautiful concrete walkway from our house to the greenhouse at our old house and I am so excited he volunteered to help with the foundation and walkway on this new one. I also wanted to mention that my husband said the customer service was great about answering all his questions and concerns, they are very knowledgeable. He spent quite a bit of time back and forth on the phone(I thought they were work calls) We will be starting the foundation this spring due to our weather. We are hiring a plumber and electrician to help on that part of it. I think my hubby will be happy to have the garage back. the last two winters I have filled it with plants and used grow lights and fans and we have been filling lots of milk jugs to water them. which has been a pain and both winters still lost some plants as it has been hard to regulate the temperature. I am so excited to get this project started, a little nervous. hoping all will go smoothly.

I'm looking forward to seeing your greenhouse. I saw a your you tube video from. I think two years ago that you looking at greenhouses and questioning the glass cleaning? Laura I have been a proud owner of a glass greenhouse kit that I put together myself with a friend five years ago. 10 ft by 16 ft. The glass needs serious cleaning, that I do in the fall. I have a well system and there is a lot of calcuim and iron. I have a filter. bit it only does so much. Today I spent 4 hours cleaning the glass and I feel I will be spending a few more hours tomorrow to make it the way I want. So self cleaning windows? what is that all about? And if it really is a thing why don't we have them on our house? You don't talk about watering system. at least from the videos I have seen. I love my greenhouse and have build a beautiful flagstone patio and a wall around it. I would love to share.

Dont go for those mini greenhouses if you live in a high wind location. My experience was pretty bad in northern Wyoming. We anchored it to two big t-posts, so it never blew away, BUTthe wind would vibrate the entire thing. So the Velcro failed, the zippers failed, and by the end of the winter I couldnt keep the door or the mini windows closed. Sometimes the flats would jiggle until they fell off the shelves. Plus it was very difficult to maintain a consistent temp. I had a small heater, so it would stay above 40 during the night, but it went to above 90 when the sun hit it. It was a cheap experiment, but I would never recommend it to anyone who ever experiences high winds.

Any tips on storing plants in a regular shed that's insulated, but has no windows. It has a big door and a little air flow at the top and electric and lighting, but no natural lighting or windows etc. I was thinking of putting a lil electric heater to keep it a lil warm on colder days and I open the door to let light in during the day time. Im trying to save my hanging plants and Coleus babies for next spring.

I am waiting to get my first greenhouse. It will be 12 x 14. It does have the auto vents in the roof and will have fans and heat. But then I think of myself standing there and saying now what. I live in zone 9 and we do get hot summers (near 100) and mild winters just a few freezing nights. I just feel like I will make rookie mistakes that if I knew basic steps I could avoid. Do you have any advice?

That little metal, shelving unit greenhouse is pretty decent, i bought six this month from Menards, and have my seeds starting in 3 of them inside my dining room which has a wall of south facing windows. They were only $27 each and are approximately 5ht x 3w x 2 deep. I will tie them to my deck when its a little warmer to start more seeds. thanks for all your inspiration!

Hi, I have had 3 of the zipup greenhouses and all broke with our first bad weather infact my neighbour gave me hers too and that broke as well, bearing in mind my garden has tall bushes all around. Now I am hoping to save for a hobby greenhouse although I do like the 20 x 36. I cant afford a lot which is why I am saving up but a greenhouse is on my wishlist for sure xx

Hi Laura, I am planting from seed this year. I am in Southwest Ontario (6a. I invested in grow lights, and my seedlings are doing really well. I am about to upplant my cool weather seedlings and I was wondering if I can put them outside in a mini greenhouse along with some herbs. Or do I still need to wait a bit? Temp still dropping below frost temps.

I dont care how much money you spend or what you spend it on as long as it inspires me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing the new changes and progress to your garden. It inspires me to progress in my life. After all isnt that what we are here for? To progress daily? Thats what I intend for my life. Im so excited for you! Its going to be awesome!

I assembled a hobby greenhouse for a previous job, and you're not kidding that they're tricky to put together. It took us a few full days of work. We got a windstorm a few weeks later and it bent some of the pieces. Ours didn't have those diagonal braces though, so that would definitely help.
