Decorating Our New Christmas Tree! Garden Answer Nancy: The cat reminds me of our cat willy we had when i was growing up. My parents didn't have rug all the way to edges of the floor and sometimes you would hear smash in middle of night when he would bat at them and they fell. These were the days b4 shatterproof. When we were babies/toddlers my parents put our tree in the playpen. The old big ones. They said it was easier than worrying about us. lol. Looking back at pictures makes me giggle. And it also reminded me of the story of willy the cat walking up and down the piano keys. He did it so much my dad turfed him out the window in middle of night. Still to this day i don't know why they didn't just close the cover over the keys lol (it was not a high window) And one last cat story in my brothers room there was a ledge that went around half the room 3/4s of the way up wall. They had their stereo and a globe and other stuff. in the middle of night the cat hit the play button (stereo was turned up high) which scared the cat and he hit the globe and it landed on my brothers head. lol good memories.

Gorgeous tree! Every year for the past 32 years wed go into the city. NYC. but after Christmas wed make the special trip in to buy ornaments in all the best stores. Some would be marked down to $1 or less. We have hundreds of beautiful glass ornaments. Sadly, I wont be using any this year. We have a new kitten, so Im not taking the chance, as he is into everything as it is. I went to Dollar Tree. Congrats on raising your son the right waymy way. We taught our son not to touch mommy or daddys things from the beginning. He never touched anything on end tables, coffee tables and the like. He just knew. My little guy will be 38 in February and hasnt broken anything in our home yet. Of course he lives elsewhere now and is teaching his children exactly as he had been taught. Way to go! Your tree is absolutely lovely. Anyone would be proud to have that tree in their home.

I, too, never put things out of reach of my children but I did use a great idea of my Dads. Dad used to let us touch things that we just couldnt leave alone with one finger. He would hold it and let us feel it all over with one finger. That did away with any grabbing. I used the same technique with our son who could have been a nightmare about picking up fragile things. I also had him put his hands in his pockets when we were somewhere with LOTS of pretties, then if he had to feel something I would hold it for him and he would touch with one finger. This way he could still walk because he did not like to be carried. He laughs because he still put his hands in his pockets to this day if hes somewhere that has a lot of breakableshes 47. His wife loves this.

My family was one of the first to grow Christmas Trees in Junction City, OR in rows to cultivate them for retail sell, but now the big growers have bought up all of us little guys. My point is I know Xmas trees quite well and the artificial tree you have is a Beauty and from my vantage point looks real! Great job snagging this little Fir. I can't see the needles very well but it could be a Douglas Fir or if it's more clump-like with bluish gray needles it could be a knock off for Noble Fir. Regardless it's really nice. ps your parenting is spot on, great job Mama!

I see that this is from 2019 but I'm kinda binge watching Garden Answer and got on the Christmas videos! I love how you decorate absolutely everything! Plus watching you interact with Aaron and Benjamin is a delight! I have one idea for you. I don't know if you ever found your bigger Angel topper but have you considered adding coordinating picks to make this angel more impressive? There's an abundance of different picks and I know you'd find the perfect ones, and, you can keep this angel. I know you love it!

I love your tree and good for you your not making your house so kid proof its not nice for adults anymore. My mom always used the BEST stuff on Christmas and we were 4 kids and were very careful with our wonderful Christmas dishes and ornaments and thats how we learned. Go to D 2 stores they had some big lovely Angles Big ones their not expensive but if you have a D 2 near you try em.

Youre tree is just beautiful. Youre doing the right thing with Benjamin. If taught early to respect things it will become a natural behavior as he gets older. As an educator of young children, the best way I found in teaching them gently not to touch things that are off limits, is the expression, Use your eyes rather than constantly say dont touch! Believe me, it works.

I got a new tree last year and it took almost all the season to accept the cooler white of all those lights. I really miss the warmer golden colors of old white lights, Oh well. I dont move any fragile things away from my grandkids, they learn that you have to be careful in some settings. Slow down and be a mom, I wish Id been given that advice in the 80s. Lol

I wish more parents were as considerate as you are in teaching their young children boundaries. My kitties love the Christmas tree too, and just like children sometimes our fur babies act up when someone is watching. This is an old video but glad I found it! I wonder if the lights on the tree did work the next year and year after. in 2021 are they still working?

We need an explanation of how you finished the ribbons at the top. Do they end in bows? Or are they just twisted back down and merge with the ribbons that were on the angel? I've never seen anyone create that much visual interest with ribbons. Now I feel like I absolutely need to get into the ribbon game.
