Transplanting Perennials to Make Way For a New Pathway! Garden Answer James: What is that large evergreen juniper-looking shrub behind you at 7: 45 next to the kwanzan? And do you like it? I was thinking of putting something like that in one of my front beds because our driveway has a basketball hoop and, because the driveway slopes toward the house, the ball often bounces (whether I make the shot or not) into the mulch bed, so I dont want to put anything too fragile right there, but it is in the front of the house, so I also dont want something that gets too big. Got any suggestions of shrubs and perennials that can take a few bumps and not break?

I love that you can move things and do all of this gardening, it is still too cold where I live to do any gardening just yet. Thanks for giving us some great content to take our minds off of all the crazy going on right now. I can't wait to see your beautiful pathway. You always inspire me to try new things or grow some different plant and for that I thank you so much. Stay safe and healthy, thank you Laura and Aaron, sending love and hugs, bye for now.

Thank you, this was so helpful. I have som day lilies that I need to move and I got a little confused about the best time to move them as when i looked it up it said to move them in the fall. Well, when it stops snowing here in Rochester NY, hopefully tomorrow, I can move them in front of my lilac an I will plant the Iandini Lily bulbs I have where the shorter day lilies were.

Just a plea for the flowering quince. If you transplanted the handful of sprouting roots in a better location would it grow into a shrub? I have one that must be 50 years old it is about 10 ft tall and wide. It is a great background shrub because I never prune it or water it. They are so tough and it blooms here (Ca) in mid January through March. The first color of the season.

Hi Laura! This question is not related to the video, but was wondering if you had some advice on indoor gardenias. Mine is doing really bad. It has yellowing leaves that drop off, and buds dropped off as well. Surprisingly I was able to get my first bloom today! I heard the trick is color weather at night. How can I adjust the temp for one plant at night tho?

umm, this is me. every. single. Spring. i am the queen of moving plants around, because i overcrowded a bed or put a plant in the wrong spot to begin with. also i've been making new beds the last couple of years and have had to use my existing border beds as holding beds for the many plants i overbought. OH, plz tell me i'm not the only one.

I'm surprised you didn't take an opportunity to move the black lace elderberry. They grow very large. I had one on my Michigan garden but had to remove, it outgrew a 8x6 space. Is it there so the tree can provide some shade. The space where the suspected dead weigela is would be a good location allowing both plants room to shine.

When we built out house 40 plus years ago, my dad winched a quince bush from his yard and brought it to me. it did well for years. Fast forward the forty years and trees had grown up shading the quince. husband took his tractor, put a chain around it and pulled it out. replanted it in a sunny spot, and sure enough its coming back!

Thank you SO much for sharing this. I have a few plants I need to move & have been a little hesitant just because I've never done it before. QUESTION: should I move my Dusty Miller? I cut it back hard because I planted them in the wrong place & intend to move them, but I'm not sure if i should just pull them out & start over?
