Getting a Few Garden Projects Done!
video description
I'm nervous to hear about the demise of your hydrangea. I just picked up a 'Bobo' and a 'Strawberry Shake' hydrangea, I'm creating sort of a hedge (based on Yulia's commercial design at a golf course she showed last summer) with 'The Blues' weeping spruce, blueberries, peonies and pink and white flowers and grasses.
What's with time? Today, I was pulling weeds to prepare for a white caladium and lemon coral sedum under a memorial crabapple tree for my sister (it would be her birthday next week. Lost all track of time, but really only a couple hours elapsed. Felt longer. Did you say that gomphrena name was Audrey? That would be so perfect to plant under the tree since that's my mom's name and her birthday was the day after my sister's. I hope it wasn't Aubrey. Like you, I'm going for a white garden, but with dots of blue/purple.

Love videos like this, going on your daily adventures with you! The end of the path where one side is shaded by the maple and the other side is more full sun, I really think it would look stunning to have some of those jardinere pots there, maybe with a lolipop topiary. You'd get the interesting height without it feeling too closed in walking down the path, and if the shaded-side pot thrives where in-ground planting hasn't, it could be a good indicator that theres something funky going on with your soil in that corner.
I have a question (unrelated to this video) what do you use to fertilise indoor perenials in pots or small arrangements, and how often would you give them a boost? Mine are happy with the soil mix I made them 18 months ago with just a bit of those generic indoor plant slow release pearls, but a few of them seem like they could use a boost!

I have a coleus that I just planted in a pot but its getting eaten up by something. I live in Vancouver, BC Canada (you have similar weather in Seattle Washington. Were used to dealing with slugs and snails but this is quite different. The soil is constantly being moved down to exposing the roots and the leaves are eaten. What could be causing this damage. Would squirrels or mice be eating the coleus? We dont have dear in the city. What can I do to keep my coleus. Ive grown them as an annual for the last few years and have never had this problem before.

Wow! Laura everything is looking so beautiful, you always give me so much inspiration to get out into my own small yard and create some beautiful flower beds. Right now in Idaho it is raining like crazy. I know you have a Japanese maple, is it a full size one or miniature? I can't remember, and also what kind of lighting do they like? I would really like to put one in my yard and I have a corner that if it's a smaller kind it could work. Thanks so much for your videos they are just fun, and seeing Benjamin is always such a treat. XOXO, bye for now.

I love your choices for the urns in the moon garden. Great job! Question: what is the container made of that the boxwoods are in in your veggie garden? It looks like terra-cotta but I didnt think terra-cotta could endure freezing temperatures. I would like to plant shrubs in containers to leave out all season but cant afford concrete planters. I live in a zone 5. Thank you for all the great, inspirational and informative videos that you put out!

Laura, I have trouble with maple trees ruining my lawn and beds near them. They drink up all the water and fill the ground with tons of roots, choking out everything. The trees aren't mine and some are 20 feet away from my borders! I have dug out the beds and cut out the roots last year [a beast of a job] and this year the roots are back as vigorous as ever! Grrr! Maybe the maple is the problem with the planting under it.

It has been so windy for the past 4 days here in north central South Dakota! I have put my plants out! I bought a green stalk tower and everything looked great until the wind! I ordered the turner with my tower but now I am ordering the mover! I need to be able to get it back into the garage! You inspire me to do more on our farm! Thank you for your videos!

At 3: 20, what is the pretty pink flowering plant behind your left shoulder? Also, Benjamin's response to seeing more strawberries being planted was magic: D I think in one of your other videos he made a quick dash behind the greenhouse when you were talking, and I thought he must have been checking the strawberry plants in the new raised gardens: D

Love the video, things are coming along for you. Do you have another video on how you are changing your drip over to grid? I usually do what you did, and I'm a little lost as to how you are changing it over. You did explain a little in the video, but I'm still confused as to the advantage, and how to do it. Be well! Thanks.
