Aside from being a novice gardener, I'm also a novice aquarist with a planted betta sorority aquarium. Good choice on the plants! Java ferns prefer for their base to not be submerged in substrate, so you can tie them down with string. Fluval stratum is a great aquatic substrate because it maintains a fairly low pH. For reference, my tap water is normally very hard and a pH of 8 and added to the aquarium with Fluval Stratum, it goes right down to 6. 7. If you want your plants to really thrive and push growth, you can add aquatic plant fertilizer along with a CO2 booster (can find both at Petco) and watch a ton of growth happen quickly! I would love to try this in my yard.

Hi Laura, Love your videos. I am an Aquascape contractor in NC. We use all sorts of ground loving plants in our ponds. As you suggested, we remove the soil first and plant directly in the rocks. One of my favorites are impatiens. They add so much color to a water feature. The floaters are nice (water hyacinth and water lettuce, cardinal flower, pitcher plants, venus fly traps (carnivorous would need a little more earth under them and can stay in containers, but soaking in water. I am not an expert on the carnivorous plants but have them in a floating pot in my pond and they are doing fantastic. Thank you for sharing your gardening skills with us.

Love your demonstrations. Question: I have a huge Peace Lilly that I grew from tiny and in the beginning was told it likes to dry out between watering which I have followed. I thought about getting this kit after watching your your demonstration and using my Peace Lily, but doesn't it sit in water all the time? What is it I don't know? thanks

This is a wonderful alternative for those of us who either dont have the space or time to have a pond and dont want to commit to an expensive fountain. I could imagine it on an apartment deck or tucked into a bed near a patio. I think it would be best enjoyed in the evening given the light and soft flow of water.

Fluval stratum substrate is a great choice for this project but if you ever want to add more semi aquatic plants or fully aquatic plants I would look into a live substrate like something from caribsea. I really enjoyed watching this project and I love the layout and I cant wait to see it in future videos.

What happens when if water gets yuckie? How often does it need to be cleaned? I think my mother-in-law would love something like this but I don't wanna give her more work. Could u put/glue rocks to the waterfall to give it more sound? I do love the idea of an non-permenant water feature

Love the water garden. Although, I think the power cord should come up out of the back of the feature instead of the side (there are guided groves and a gap for this on the top section. I might be wrong but thought I would just highlight just in case. Love your videos. x

I love the video. I want to learn all that I can with waterfall gardening to experiment with things like wasabi and lotus flowers. Both of them grow in rocky soil near flowing riverbeds and iconic niche plants would help me break into the local markets near me
