Repotting a Palm, Planting Snowdrops & Pruning Roses! Garden Answer Melody: This is off-topic, but I was wondering if you have ever dealt with voles in your garden? My tiny garden is being completely overrun. I tried the Bonide repellent that is supposed to work on both voles and moles, without success. We can't trap them because the bait attracts bears, and an outside cat isn't an option for us either. I've done the recommended clean-up tasks, like removing extra mulch so they can't use it as cover. Is there anything else that I could be doing? I'm considering planting future plants in vole baskets, but I'm afraid they'll damage the roots of my plants. I would be so grateful for any suggestions.

Have you considered pegging those Iceberg roses to the ground? I planted a few unknown Bourbon roses labelled as shrub roses a few years back, but they turned out to be climbers. This year, I decided to bend those long canes and peg them about two inches from the ground with landscape staples, creating a sort of fountain shape. If you're really short on space, you can even bend the canes over to the other side of the plant. The canes put out lots of lateral growth with blooms all along the canes, and they were just glorious!

Hi Laura and Aaron! I love the snowdrops! I hope I can find some. I'd really enjoy seeing them come up early. It's always nice seeing Aaron helping when you need him. I would remove the roses, too, and plant something there that you can enjoy more with less maintenance. They'd be pretty on your new property maybe along the outer fence, or by the new compost area, like others have mentioned below. Thank you so much for sharing! Also, loved seeing Cheddar riding shotgun! Too cute!

Please (for the sake of your other indoor plants, be very very VERY wary of pigmy date palm scale. My worst problem in CA! I find no matter what I use, it's impossible to cure once it moves in. Any preventative tips? I had 3, 6' size palms that grew beautifully for 5 years, outdoors, they were stunningly beautiful. but in ONE summer it started on the left and moved to all 3 plants because I didn't know what pigmy date palm scale was until it was too late.

Love watching you do daily chores your positive personality does more for me than any therapy could. I'd love to see burgundy hooded sweatshirts in your merch, if get one for sure. Would also love to see a pruning video on pruning the winecraft black smokebush. Mine had two new growth shoots that took off above the others (i think yourself too) and don't know what do do about those. Just wait for the rest of the branches to catch up?

I've had the same snowdrops for decades and decades nothing seems to kill them. You can walk on them all summer long when they go dormant and they always come up January or February and put on a nice show. The pygmy date palm have some brutal thorns on it when they get old, and also there are pollinator there a lot of bees like them when they get adult flowers. One time I was in Northern Florida and the pygmy date palms did freeze

Laura, could you spend a little time explaining pruning? I know you fast forward to be able to showcase more gardening projects. I've been gardening for quite a few years but I'm always apprehensive when pruning - especially fruit trees, maples, weigela, etc. Would love to know exactly where to cut for the best shape. I've learnt so much from your videos! Thank you.

I love your idea of just getting rid of something if it doesn't work for you. (Talking about the roses) That was one of the first things I learned from you and I have to say thanks, it was so freeing. I replaced some of my ugly hydrangea that just were not performing anymore with boxwood. What a beautiful space now. P. S. I LOVE YOUR CATS!

Do you have problems with Rose Rosetta disease? We had a landscaper in our area say its untreatable and we should just pull the roses. I dont mind to because Im not a huge fan their location (near where our son plays.
Im just curious if others have these issues. Im excited about planting something Ill enjoy and a little more safe!
