A Trip to the Garden Center for Houseplants! Garden Answer DeAnn: I loved this video. I found myself talking out loud as you spotted each plant you chose, saying. oohhh that one is different, calming, and cool, and then it would be one you picked! And Thank You for not speeding up the video as you planted these and showing close-ups of how much dirt you filled initially with and how you dig out the center. And also when and how much you rough up the existing soil before potting. Sometimes I wonder if I pot things incorrectly or if I rough up the roots, too, much or not enough. Fabulous plants, perfect pots, and great tip on finding saucers. I enjoy your content, your positive attitude, your energy -even when 9 months pregnant! Your family, including your parents and sister, Aaron, Benjamin, the cats, and now you're newest addition, Samantha, are an inspiration to us all to be kind, generous, and genuine and feel blessed for what we have. You indirectly give us hope there is goodness in this crazy world, while providing us knowledge, ideas, smiles, and joy. Congratulations! And thank you for doing what you do! We would all be lost without you.

I had been thinking of using interesting saucers under my house plant pots rather than clear plastic, but I just wasn't confident. After I heard/saw your suggestion about tea cup saucers, I found 6 items that work beautifully, 2 are lead glass 4 inch candle saucers, 3 are unusually shaped snack or relish dishes, the last is actually called a plant saucer and is pale yellow shaped like a flower. All for just $10. 00 at a huge mid-Missouri antique mall. Thank you for helping me be confident in trying new things.

Hi Laura, Aaron, Benjamin and Susan! I always love it when you take us with you to the garden center. I'm hoping to get over there to buy some houseplants and outdoor plants later on. Benjamin is so precious and Russel is so naughty! LOL! The houseplants you picked are really pretty and the pots you picked, and the way you displayed them, is beautiful! The obelisk is really cute. Thank you so much for sharing!

I would love to have more house plants. However, we moved recently and thats the one thing I dont love about this house. the only good spot for house plants are in the bedrooms. And they arent huge so I dont have much room for extra dressers (I have a tv on one ans the others are night stands. Maybe Ill get some plant stands to bring some
Green indoors. Like you, Im soooo craving it!

Plants add so much to a home! I'll say it again, you are indeed lucky to have such a wonderful place to shop for plants. No house plants to be had locally here, except for nearly dead ones. I need one of those Frosts! The best way I've found to be successful with indoor ferns are in terrariums, a no brainer, just add water once in a great while.

I'm like you Laura, always bringing in fresh house plants after Christmas, craving that fresh greeness.
Question: how do plants get oxygen under that glass cloche?
The plants look lovely, will be refreshing and bright to look at while you're resting with baby girl. praying all goes well!
Nesting is getting more house plants! love it!

I have had my Boston Fern for 37 years. It has been a journey. Sometimes it looks absolutely horrible, but I have finally figured most of its likes and dislikes out! It was part of our wedding reception 37 years ago. I told my husband if it ever dies, our marriage is in trouble. JK Thank you for brightening my day.

Hello, by any chance could you interview your mom and let us know how she keeps her ferns looking so well? I have 2 ferns in my home and I have been thinking about sticking them in the bathtub and drenching them really well because it's really hard to gauge how much water you are giving them indoors.

I won't be surprise if one day we will see Benjamin planting his own garden. Or maybe he will have his own farm and distributing plants in those big boxes.
. not to mention I am a big fan of Home Depot and Lowe's. And btw. I bought stuff from Proven Winners because of you.

So, two of the plants had large, really dense compact root balls that you didn't break up and that took up most of the pots. They do well like that? Seems like there was no room for growth. Do you report or are your plants like they are disposable. .. just go get new ones?
