Fiddle Leaf Fig Cutting Update + Potting Up New Citrus, Papaya & Hardy Fig! Garden Answer Tiffiny: I love the Chicago hardy figs - I had one in a concrete planter last season and I sprinkled alyssum & pansy seeds which all did wonderfully. I left the planter outside in a protected area, I left the alyssum & violas over winter to act as a mulch. I watered it every 4 weeks +/- a day or so. Had evergreen branches surrounding it for extra insulation. This spring the alyssum & violas were blooming in May, but the tree is very much dead. I tried the year prior - that was planted in the ground and also died. We live in SW Michigan, zone 5 (but really our winters are more like zone 6/7.
What did I do wrong?

I am sad this video has audio issues. I pushed through but it was only coming out of the left side for a lot of the video and it was making me feel a bit seasick! To be fair, I have allergies that are making my ears sensitive so I was likely noticing it more! I am in Canada and I have a Calamondin citrus in my basement! It is about 3 years old and has been fruiting for me every year. I was hoping to buy an orange tree and a lemon for in here this spring but I have a puppy and with shots and neutering etc I had to pare down my plant budget this year.

Hi Laura, you should try a loquat tree. The fruit is delicious and it's not something most of us can find at the grocery store. Loquats are also amongst the hardiest citrus, although still not outside in less than zone 8. I bet it would do great in your new glasshouse. My great great uncle had one amongst other citrus trees and the loquats were my favorite. Haven't eaten one in a couple of decades but I still remember how good they were right off the tree. Qnd, bonus is that it makes a beautiful tree.

I have a guava here in LasVegas. Its potted on the porch. It gets to freezing here but not for long. Ive had her for a few years and she is a little fussy and dramatic. I plan on putting her in the ground this fall. Not sure why she gets dramatic. I repotted a few months ago and i guess she got replant shock and then the temps climbed over 100 WAaY before usual. Keeping my fingers crossed. Cold does stress a bit and one year she went dormant but came back just fine.

I never said anything but you saying the heartly all the time confused me & no offense because somethings annoy ppl, but until I understood it was a greenhouse of some sort it did. I was guessing you were naming it which is nice I guess. You do what you want, I'll get used to it or I won't, you don't talk about it 247. Us regular ppl would understand greenhouse easier so maybe switch it up every now and then

Well if you don't want your fig to be a shrub don't plant it in the ground, bc I have seen hardy figs grown here in the Midwest and every year they die back to the ground and comeback fresh, then proceed to grow 8-10 ft by the end of the season and make fruit. But they dont like to be wet so they have to be planted high(like several inches, or the hole amended with sand, otherwise they will rot overwinter

Hi Laura! Please stick with The Hartley. You don't need to change the name since that's what you've always called it. I'll be anxious to see how those fruit trees do. I'd love to be able to grow some fruit trees, but they would need to stay outside in the winter in posts because I don't have room to move them inside, or enough light. Thank you so much for sharing!

The fiddle leaf fig video from a few months ago was the first video of yours that I ever watched! Now I watch your videos everyday and if I need more, I pick something from your older playlists. Im have learned so much! I was wondering if you could do an indoor plant tour at some point? Also I am soooo excited for the Hartley!

Great video! I bought a bare root Chicago hardy fig and it's doing great. Also, my Meyer lemon tree finally gave up and I am so sad. My local nursery had citrus on sale so I purchased the variegated pink lemon. Hopefully, that'll do better and enjoy being with its Key lime tree. I wish I had a porch like yours to keep them in.
