Planting a Shady Border! Garden Answer Melinda: I do not understand how you manage to stay so cool looking, and beautiful while working in your gardens. My gardens are nothing in comparison to yours, in size or maintenence. By the end of a few hours, I am a gross, sweaty, dirty mess when I am done. I must wear tennis shoes, sleeveless tops, shorts, sunglasses and a garden hat, in early morning hours before noon. Live in Illinois, along the border of Illinois, Iowa and Missouri, zone 6b. The Mississippi River borders our town flanked by rock cliffs. We have horrible humidity. Anyway, you look fresh, cool and put together even wearing 3/4 sleeves, jeans and sometimes a vest. I would keel over from heat exhausttion! Admire your energy, knowledge, preserverance, follow ups and inspiration. Thank you for making it look so easy, but I in fact know that it is darn hard work and you are remarkable!

I just had a reality check, my nursery charges now over $30 for this size containers (Shadowland) hosta. Just this first section with coast to coast would be over $200. We are looking at a project thats easily $550. On hosta This Bergenia is on my for years and I cant locate it. Wonder if there is no request for them in Metro Detroit. Really sad about that because they are so unusual looking with their thick leafs.
Please keep us posted on how those plants do foe you. Tried Wu La La for 3 years (have 4 of them) and they are incredibly slow for such a large plant. Coast to coast is so much more rewarding to grow.

Beautiful! The Hosta's are going to look gorgeous when the settle in! Cheddar is super cute! I have 2 kitties that help me garden! I have a question. I have two entrance way containers that need a plant that grows tall, too 20 inches - 24 inches. One container is in full shade all day and the other beside it has about 6 hours of sun a day. I can't figure out what I need to plant in them to make them look uniform. Any suggestions? Thanks happy planting, Christal

I'm so glad I saw this video because I have Bergenia Miss Piggy's in my front Garden. I planted them about 5 years ago (they do get about 3 ft wide and beautiful flowers I love them) & everyone always asks me what they're called and I had forgotten until I saw your video! Thanks so much! A quick question though someone had told me that they are a species of Hosta! Is that true?

Hi Laura
You always make drip irrigation look so easy. Can you pls tell me which products you use? I have such a hard time getting my fittings to enter or fit. Ive tried purchasing the tool that helps u push the tubes and fittings in, but Im still struggling. Ive been ordering from Amazon and just have not been having luck. Beautiful changes btw.

It looks absolutely gorgeous with the mature trees and all the green underplanting. How wide is the flower bed where you planted the hostas. About 3 feet? Where the willow roots are not allowing you to plant the hostas you could try direct seeding - you could try some Impatiens for example or even some Campanula

so love the choices you made. I struggle with shade garden as it is under really large holly trees and junipers. What could I do, as their root systems make it very tough to dig under (clay soil in VA additionally. Thank you! Love all the learning that takes place watching this and GAHighlights.

Hi Laura! Loved seeing Cheddar in the video! That area was pretty before, but is so much prettier now. I love the hostas and heuchera you used. The colors compliment each other nicely and the heucheras add just the right amount of color. Thank you so much for sharing!

I have been shopping for an Empress Wu or Wu La La since I first saw them on your videos but no one sells them in my area. I was able to find a Jurassic Park hosta that claims to get almost as large. Do you have any experience with this variety?
