Making This Flower Bed Look WAY Better!
video description
If its a compaction issue you can try taking a drill and drill bit and poke some holes in that area (similar to core aerating just on a much smaller scale. Put down some high potassium low nitrogen fertilizer so you can try and get those roots strong again. Then water it and hopefully the water can make it down to the roots and start building them back up.

I kept thinking exactly what you just said at the end, the willow is sucking up all that water. Where is your septic and leach field? A willow near that area will cost you thousands of dollars because their roots will just take it over. I really liked these last few videos. Where you just do your thing and narrate over it. Im sure you get more done that way too. Its wonderful to see you happy and full of energy. You are amazing, you can get so much work done in a day. I get exhausted just watching you sometimes

Can i offer a word of warning regarding the pond idea. Willow trees will seek out water and i have one in our garden which decided to bring its roots up and over the edge of my liner and into our pond. Our pond is now full of roots and the tree drinks the pond water so much i have to fill it up daily.
So if you did a pond i would recommend keeping it well away from the willow tree: )

I absolutely love these maintenance videos, they are just long enough to enjoy with a cup of tea out on the back porch and the motivation I need to get these old bones moving in this morning heat! Im excited for the water catchment system too, we want to do that here, if only for the purpose of watering our garden with pure clean rain water.

You are always so motivating and inspiring! I have a flower bed (my first in our new home) That I really need to pull weeds and get mulch down in as well as define the shape/boarder. Been putting it off for longer than I care to admit this makes me want to get out there and get to it!

Creatively,
I am so beyond excited and happy for you all! I am so happy all of your alls hard work is paying off. I am jealous, though, of the little rain you get! We get 66 inches per year! & most of it is in the spring and summer- which ends up leading to sooo many fungal diseases!

Weeping willow trees draw alot of water. Yours' is very beautiful. All those branches you cut down could become many trees.
Just stick them in a pot and they will form roots quickly. I have a tree as tall as the one you have that I started from a twig.

Do you deal with mushrooms when you underplant under trees? I have a shade garden that is mulched and I often see a few different kinds of mushrooms popping up in the bed. Is this something I should be worried about? Do you know what could be causing this?

This is very inspirational. We have 5 willows (2 weeping) which I am currently creating garden beds under. I love the idea of putting a pond near the willow, this could be an excellent solution for a trouble spot in our front yard.
