Working in My Grandparents Garden: Thinning Fruit Trees, Pruning Tomatoes & Weeding! Katherine: Content ideas? Would you take us on a 1- quick update tour of your vine vegies (pumpkins etc) & vine fruit (raspberries etc. Also, did you do anything for 2- Cabbage Moths and did it affect your broccoli heads? Lastly, are you getting a ton of 3- SWD flies all over your Raspberry bushes? After researching I am afraid to eat the berries for fear of maggots - yuck!
On a better note: Laura - absolutely enjoying your Hartley enthusiasm we too are feeling the joy: )

I have to ask, and Im not asking to be rude or anything, but I need to know, how can you work outside in 90-100 degree weather with long sleeves, jeans and your hair down! I just about die in short sleeves, shorts and my hair in a ponytail as it is! Right now its 90 degrees out & with our humidity it feels like 105 and I have to have my hair in a ponytail and stand in front of a fan when I come in because its so hot and humid! I need to know the secret!

I'm in SLC and we also are getting the overcast skies from the Oregon fires! I like the glass half full comment:
It gives reprieve to the plants! Yes, I have even been able to even plant stuff with the overcast! However, I am very sorry for those dealing with the fires. Even though you are throwing buckets of fruit away while thinning- you may be throwing buckets of yucky fruit away in the end from not thinning.

It was great returning to your grandparents place to see how it has changed. I take it your grandpa and grandma either werent home or are camera shy. Understandable. Always fun to see your family though. I love, love, love that members of both sides of your and Aarons family live close enough to visit one another. Thats such a gift! Your children will benefit from getting to know them just as you have. Blessings.

Thank you so much for showing how to thin the fruit trees. I bought a Meyers Lemon tree in the fall and it has put out a lot of fruit. Approximately 40 lemons. I thought I needed to thin it but I hated the thought of removing good fruit! I have trusted you and I removed 10 today to help the remaining ones flourish! Thanks! New to gardening in Florida.

One of the best things about having a place for composting on your own property is plant waste becomes the best soil food ever. No more guilt about throwing away fruit thinnings, forgotten potatoes, etc. Sure, your chickens help with this but theres a limit to how much 4 hens can consume. What a lovely generational family you have!

I volunteer my yard if you'd like the good mood enhancer of working in someone else's yard! I'm Zone 5, but postage stamp size lot in the Chicago suburbs. We'd have plenty of time to enjoy a cocktail too! We are also getting the haze from the wild fires in Oregon and it has kept it cooler here too.

When you and Aaron are filming who has the baby? Because. I have an 8 month old who allows me very little time to do anything. naps are pretty much the only time I have and during that time I am prepping dinner or cleaning or whatever else that is not gardening. How do you do this?

Dirty hands are the hallmark of a busy gardener! I live near Pittsburgh, PA and we are having hazing days due to the weather pattern bringing smoke from the west and down from Canada. Prayers to all affected by the wildfires. may you all be safe.
