Just a correction on not needing light for seedlings: some seedlings are dark germinators (Dunkelkeimer is what I originally learned, some are light germinators (Lichtkeimer, and some don't care either way. What this means is that light germinators, like basil, have higher germination rates when the seeds are exposed to light. So technically speaking, some seeds do need light (or a thinner layer of soil covering them, and others need more darkness (provided by a thicker layer of soil, or even cardbord covering the soil) to germinate.

Amaryllis will never bloom at Christmas time once you plant them in the ground. They will bloom the time they use to bloom in their native country which is the opposite season of ours. Mine bloom in May. I will never give away my amaryllis no matter when they bloom. I love them and keep adding every year more to the collection. I love wondering Jew plant and are easy to root. I place mine in water to root before I plant. I think I have more Success with them rooting that way than straight in the soil.

Any tips for the little gnats that form when you have plants inside? Does anyone else in the comments have ideas? I've tried: yellow gnat paper (which works but I was such a mess and it got loaded in a day and I still have more gnats forming, hydrogen peroxide on the soil surface on a regular basis (not sure how well it works, I use a fan religiously and it doesn't seem to help super a lot. Any other ideas? It rather annoying having gnats all over my plant room haha

Something I have done that works really great it is to put my potting soil into a very large pot and water it. If you do that the day before you need it, youll always have nice moist soil without it being extra wet.
I have also just put water right into my bag and after a few hours, poke a hole in the bottom and let the water drip out.

I ran to the store immediately after watching, came home and planted my first Christmas Gift Amaryllis. then watched all of your past care videos just to make sure I was doing everything right. I'm in zone 11 and started it outside. Thanks for the encouragement and showing us all that we can strive to have a green thumb too!

I would like to know where you got the big tray you put the seed starter tray in to water. I love to seed start and this year will be fun because I can get a early start because I retired this year. love watching you and Benjamin working together. I have a grandson named Benjamin he is 15mo. I can't wait to get him in the garden.

It is so inspiring to see you with Benjamin and teaching him your passion of gardening. You give us all hope for the future generation. Thank you for all you do to show us your day to day life and what you think are your maintenance projects. We all love to see what we are supposed to do with spent plants!

Have you ever started tomatoes from cuttings? I was just curious if you could wait until just before frost and then snip some cuttings to grow over winter for the following spring. Of course it's too late for me to do that this year. My tomatoes are long gone. But the idea just popped in my head.

have you ever grown the miniature tomatoes like Tiny Tom. I know there are several varieties. I planted some last winter and it was really fun but I didn't really have the correct light set up etc. I just kept thinking it would be fun to have a kid around to see all the teensy little tomatoes.
